car tax question
I am selling my car. how late can I claim the tax back and if I do it today, will it cease to be taxed as of today or will it remain taxed to end of month? If I do it on the last day of the month will it affect the nexts months claim for a refund? the only issue is that in order to claim I have to record date of sale as today. bit of a minefield. TIA

Re: car tax question
IIRC, if you SORN it, it takes effect from the next month. You'll still be taxed until then.
If you sell it taxed, you'll get a partial refund pro-rata'd from when the V5 is processed.

Re: car tax question
Actually, I've only SORN'ed it mid month with the reminder, this is off the DVLA site..
Immediately
Use the 11-digit number on your vehicle log book (V5C) to take the vehicle off the road immediately.
On the first day of next month
Use the 16-digit number on your vehicle tax reminder letter (V11) to take the vehicle off the road from the first day of next month. You can only use this number once.
