Her hands. :D

I might say it's a strange sort of blood test though.

(We do get the full annual MoT for chaps but a) I'm not old enough yet :D b) They've been 'covided' for the duration).

I’m in the quacks Monday morning for a psa bloods and an examination.
Thing is my Doctor is a friend I played rugby with for many years, it doesn’t bother me, but the time I had pain in my bollocks and he examined them, he looked me directly in the eyes and winked then told me I have lovely testicles

So I don’t have to get up during the night to pee. I don’t get frequency or urgency. I don’t have blood in my urine , I do have blood in the other goo. It’s not like a scene from Carrie, just traces.

Dunno if that’s an over share but some reading this might want to know. It’s not every time, but it is becoming more frequent.

Getting up in the night was never one of my symptoms before I was diagnosed and for a number of years after I was diagnosed. it happens more now but usually if I've had a couple of beers. If I drink rakı it doesn't happen. I've only ever had blood in my urine with a urine infection and they are probably a bit more common in men with BPH but it's not a symptom of BPH.

Been there, done that....when I was a student. Soon sorted...once I'd summoned up the bottle to go to the uni health centre. Hope they get you sorted as quick.

Come the exam time she did all the usual reflexes, breathing, etc, then asked if I wanted the prostate exam. No problem, said I. She told me it all felt good, then asked if, whilst I had my undercrackers down, I want her to examine my testicles for anything untoward. Just to be sure I've not missed anything in my casual fumblings in front of the telly, yes, please. Better safe than sorry.

She looked down, sort of half pointed and asked me, rather apologetically, 'Would you mind just moving your penis out of the way'.

I don't know why, but that was just the cringiest thing. I actually felt myself flushing whilst mumbling an apology. The mother of all conversation killers.

Anyhow, my nuts are all good.
She was prolly disappointed it hadn't moved out of the way on it's own. :1

Coincidences or what? A couple of months ago I had all the not so good symptoms. I kept putting it off thinking it was just an infection. I blamed the getting up in the middle of the night on my diabetes. The bit that was worrying was the time it took to pee and the burning sensation as well as wanting to pee but not being able. That as well as a pain in my groin - sometimes a sharp stabbing pain.

I searched the Internet, as one does, and luckily for me I found: https://prostatecanceruk.org/

They are truly fantastic people. Their site is second to none. I filled in the online questionnaire and then spoke to one of their nurses - all free of charge. She asked me a few questions and then told me to see my doctor and to tell my doctor exactly what I had told her. I printed out the questionnaire from their site and gave it to my doctor. She thanked me for it because she said lots of men forget some of the symptoms.

And so...I was given a PSA test. That came back fine. My doctor then gave me a rectal examination and diagnosed:
Benign prostate enlargement. Phew! She said the purpose of the internal inspection was to check if the prostate was smooth or lumpy. It was over in seconds. She prescribed Tamsulosin and said I will be on them permanently. They are certainly effective. All the symptoms/problems are now gone.

In the meantime...the private market hocus-pocus scum are trying to cash in by advertising on LBC with this stuff:

https://www.avogel.co.uk/health/enlarged-prostate/

I’m going to celebrate with a new motorbike as soon as the weather gets better.

I hope the information in my post will be of value to somebody least of all the support, advice from the Charity link above.

Take Care. Be good.

gremlin wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 12:58 pm I remember Mrs. Gremlin taking Gremlinette for her first smear. She said the nurse who did it was rough and taciturn, to the point Gremlinette got all anxious causing the nurse to get more frustrated, ad infinitum.

We complained, as if every young girl has that experience they're never going to go back, unsurprisingly, when we all know that it's the sensible thing to do.
I'm really glad you complained, and so sorry Gremlinette had to go through that

That sort of nurse is the reason I don't go. Even after the high profile stories about people that should have and didn't and died.

I have never ever understood why a female nurse can't be at least a little empathetic and kind. Or why a male gyne would become one if he obviously has no respect/regard/care for women (ok, he was French, but I bet there are similar in the UK0

The only one I ever had that was 100% pain free was a locum male GP. If the one after hadn't reduced me to tears and getting harsh comments from the nurse again, no doubt I'd have continued to go on time

Probably worse is that I had to have a scrape after a bad smear (Sin, of Cin, 3, so a bit bad but not terrible) 20 ish years ago and I still don't go because, well - all the reasons I've written!! Which are mainly one - that the health care professionals I've had do it have been unkind, uncaring and inflicted pain!!!

Sorry - really shouldn't have sidetracked you guys from prostate issues!!

Having jumped through the web hoops, just had my appointment. The young doctor I saw - What. A. Star. Incredibly thorough, informative, pleasant and in no hurry to get to the next patient. Tick, gold star, 10/10.

I should live long enough to get the results. :D

I'm on them. I have a very laid back consultant (private scum, sorry!) who simply said, see how you get on with them. Take them all the time, as and when you may need them (long journey the next day, before a night on the sauce, etc.) or never again. I kind of like that doctor. :)

One side effect they may not have told you about is the 'dry ejaculation' whereby you jizz into your bladder. Nice! Never had it myself, but a mate on them stopped taking them for such reason.

Another Tamsulosin user over here. Plus a few other pills for other stuff. 6 every morning, who needs breakfast!!
I’ve also had the blood in the goo thing, related to other stuff. Interesting when you’re laying back relaxing after all the effort and I hear the girlfriend in the loo saying, ooooohhhhh, that’s bad!!!!

Well. I got the results of the biopsy yesterday and it's bad news and good news.
Bad news: yes, it's cancer. :(
Good news: they should be able to cure it. :)

Glad it was caught in time and that they say they can treat it. May your treatment be swift, pain free and fully effective.
