The kings is dead... long live the king.....

Post by Wreckless Rat »

With the demise of 'the other place', it seemed fitting to kill the old 'other place' discount and make one for our new home.

So...

*drum roll*

I'm seriously tempted. I currently get my coffee subscription via this lot: https://dogandhat.co.uk/

No complaints; the beans are excellent and the variety lovely. Plus, I have my Bodum bur coffee grinder that is my favourite thing ever.

Your offer looks like I'd get twice as much coffee for the same price (1kg vs 500g) is that right?

Recommend me some coffee then. :)

What I find is that most coffee I buy is over-roasted, resulting in a strong flavour, but somehow killing the subtle undertones of coffee. My go-to choice is Grumpy Mule (the Sumatran one), ground in my trusty hand grinder and brewed in my plunger pot.

Out of all the coffees there, which one will give a full flavour with the floral, caramel notes that coffee should have?

Hi - I had an issue with the back end database. Can you tell me where you see this?

May give Holly's Blend a try - we mainly drink flat white so assume this is what you'd recommend?

To be honest, all our coffee is how coffee "should be" - we only buy top notch beans. The El Savador or perhaps the Costa Rica might suit you. I don't roast these too deep, keeping the lighter and brighter flavours.

Holly's is good for that, yes. The Costa Rican is also very nice as a flat white, not quite as strong, but very flavoursome.

I'm running around trying to find where Docca has seen twice the coffee for half the price...

I went through 'shop' and then the coffee subscription. Got this:

"Never run out of freshly roasted, artisan coffee with our subsciption service of monthly deliveries of freshly roasted coffee beans to you door.

Each kg will comprise of 4x 250g bags of coffee, you can select whole bean or ground to suit your style of coffee making."

If that's the case, i'll subscribe today

Ok, that seems right.

Maybe I need to work on the wording a bit, the website is a bit limiting, they only built the subscription thing for me a few weeks back.

For each unit, you get 1Kg of coffee, depending on your selection it should range from about £18 - to about £25 (roughly) a little less if you take a weekly subscription, and around £21 for a variety. Most people don't want 1kg open, it starts to go stale, so we bag in 250g bags. Most bean to cup machines take 250g and most people seem to get through that in a few days, which keeps the other 750g sealed and fresher. It costs us a little more in bags, but I think you get fresher coffee, especially by the time you are down to the last 250g.

This is a little cheaper than just coming along and ordering 1kg - but its a regular order, so a little discount for repeat custom.

I 'think' it looks like its working as intended.

So if I purchase 1kg of Hollys, will it be a single 1kg bag or 4x 250g?

4x 250g - we still discount it as if we package in 1kg bags, I know many places don't, in fact I think we are the only place to do this (possibly). Bags are expensive, as we use the ones which are resealable and have the one way valve, but I still think it's worth it for the customer.

Worth doing, really. I'm sure that several people looked at this thread's title and thought "Nah" :)
