I didn't know we had any gas stations in the UK to start with.

It was obvious really that the big petrol companies were going to diversify at some stage. They may appear stubborn but they're pretty intelligent and can see the way the wind is blowing.

Anyone on here live/work in Fulham?
Makes sense in an area with little off-street parking. Wonder how competitive the pricing will be? Suspect it will be premium in that area.

(Used to work at the tattier end of the King's Road but haven't been anywhere near for years).

Hell YES!!!!

I mean, for me I love things like Mustangs and Maseratis for the noise

But that just looks gorgeous - so lack of noise but being green in something so sexy, well, yes!! :bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde:

That will be why so many people drive 4x4s with huge frontal areas and square shapes.

Fashion will continue to dictate car shapes, and anyway low-slung cars and the abysmal potholess/speed humps that cover UK roads are not a good combination.

I think the current SUV craze has a lot to do with basic psychology. They 'look' safe, and the higher driving position makes them feel 'safe' (because you can see more and have a 'domineering' sense while driving.

There's also the benefit (from an EV point of view) that they can carry more batteries in the larger (heavier) chassis structure, so they appear to have more range (despite hefting that heavy battery pack and chassis around).

Can't disagree about the road surfaces, in I'd imagine that in statistical terms, across the entire UK tarmac area, potholing is likely to be below 5% (I'm guessing here utterly), and given that local councils* are responsible for most of that.....

* commonly known to be not just parsimonious anyway, but also very bad at managing road conditions, despite best efforts from some (but not all), and a distinct lack of support from central govt. Basically - you want better roads? Complain to the locals directly, and admit that you're going to have to pay for them (over the odds naturally due to inefficiencies within the local council structures)

Despite what I do for a living I genuinely think whatever a few people in this small island do it’s completely irrelevant on the world scene. Looking at the pollution from emerging countries, from global shipping, worldwide flights etc it makes no odds if you buy a new electric car to replace your perfectly good car that has already been made nothing will change.
My bus does 25mpg but it’s 19 years old, I could spend £40k and buy an electric car but I’m not convinced that’s any better for the environment.

The reality is the worlds economies run on new cars being sold and that’s the main reason for this push.

I’ll keep my 19 year old bus and cycle to work twice a week, as above thought it’ll make no odds to the world but I can pretend I’m doing my bit

This is an issue for makers, the motors all sound and feel the same whether it’s a basic EV or a high end one, apart from the shape of the car and the acceleration your extra cash for a high end car doesn’t get you a nicer sounding engine.

I’m not convinced taking a good classic and filling it with batteries is any more eco friendly than running it as it is.

I agree entirely. Living where I do I try to help to keep our local beaches free from plastic, but when I read the estimates of the amount of plastic discharged into the sea via the Ganges and Yangtse rivers I realise I am pissing in the wind.

Haven't seen a grockle since I last crossed the Tamar. Emmets however are a PITA.

If you must use technical terms make sure you get them right! :D

I've drove a lot of Nissan leafs around our compound at work and the power delivery is brilliant, very smooth from 0 mph, never been over 40mph though. They do pull well.

100% charge shows around 180/190 range. Air con etc, can kill this apparently. Imo, EVs are commuting vehicles and not much else. Charge at home or work if you can.

If I was in the market for one and had the money, then yes I might buy one, but I ain't and i never will be. 👍

I imagine that with a decent amount of solar panels, a powerwall (or equivalent other brand) battery and lecky car will be looking to make far more financial sense now that Brexit and Ukraine are kicking in now.

Solar panels are certainly becoming more appealing, leccy cars less so.

They used to be located on the same estate as us, but they've moved. They're also part of the same group as Arrival, the electric van/bus company. Sometimes I feel like all of Arrival is made up of ex colleagues of mine!

Arrivals head honcho is Russian and has/had a photo of him and Putin on his desk  That said, they're (corporately) located in London and operate on the NY stock market. I'm curious to see how it plays out.

If you were going to buy a Tesla, or any EV, does the software tell you how much life is left in the battery pack?
