Academic now mind, as I arrived at step mothers this morning to find she has passed peacefully in the night. Just waiting on her GP to arrive and confirm in case it’s some sort of deep coma? I’m pleased she’s passed though. Bloody awful to see a human left like that!
Condolences.

It's a horrible mix of sadness, relief then guilt :(

Also look into hospice at home but best to duscusss her palliative care with her GP, which you probably have, but I found it was only when I asked for help it was actually forthcoming.

Condolences chap, to you and your family. A peaceful slipping away in the night is the best scenario in these circumstances. Hope you all get the space to share memories and sort through the legalities and so on. Blessings and peace.

Right now I have been writing a sermon for a wedding I'm taking this coming Saturday, but now I have to change gear and go and take a funeral at 2pm in a church and committal at the crematorium.

Official report confirms sprained tendon, no serious damage. Ice, anti-inflammatories and never to attempt limbo dancing again. The nurse practitioner was from Barbados and took great delight in hearing of my self-inflicted injury.

Is it just me who has noticed that every medical conversation includes the phrase, 'At your age' these days...?

I've just been told my Da has tested positive for Covid. Being an already frail and unvaccinated 94 y/o I can't see this going well.

Sadly not. Priests are very seldom invited to the wake or wedding receptions now... I will only go to one where I have known the deceased or wedding couple.

Sorry for your loss Taipan.

I lost mum 6 year ago when she was only 63. Aneurism.
Brain was completely dead, but had to wait a painful 2 weeks for the body to give up while not hooked up to life support. Most painful thing I have ever seen.
Just this year Australia have now passed the law for VAD. I wish we had that option back then.
This subject will probably spark an argument, but I'm ready for the opinions.

DW, you’ll get no argument from me. My Dad was 6 weeks on life support following a cancer op, he always made me promise not to leave him on a machine. I still feel guilty 21 years later, even though there was nothing I could do.

Taipan, really sorry mate, hope you and the family are all ok.

I've only just seen this Taipan. So sorry to hear about your loss and glad that your step mother passed away in peace

As my Mum is now having palliative care it is all free however they cannot provide night time or respite care and I believe this may be a bit of a postcode lottery. I was told that my Mum's care package would put out to tender (though that's not the term they used) and if an agency can provide it they will. As of yet, none of them can. I'm just filling in a form now for the Emergency Back-up Scheme for Carers which will provide full time care for my Mum if something was to happen to me (sickness etc) which is better than nothing.

Back home from doing a funeral visit which included Holy Communion. What a privilege to be with people in their grief and walking with them through the memories of their loved ones. It was a good visit and ended with a quiet prayer and a hug. They were married for over 60 years. I came home quiet and reflective and have typed up the order of service and all my notes.

I'm on a day off. I've just had a bacon sarnie. It's snowing (although less so than at 8am!) and I'm contemplating going out to ski in falling snow for the first time in about ten years!!

I just don't - lack of visibility, lack of confidence and lack of skill. But, I've worked hard on the last two, so best see if I can deal with the first now!!
