"Orientate" grates on me....I have no idea why, its fully legitimate as far as I know. Orient/Orientate. Same thing, both valid.

I've orientated many a map.

However when I was rally navigating I kept the map static, with north at the top and didn't orientate it at each turn.

What about when heading east?

I don't recall any rally where we went far enough east for it to be a problem.

I just had to remember that east was on the left side of the map. Or was it the right side? I dunno now, I've slept since those days.

"Schedule" pronounced the American way annoys me. A colleague once "corrected" me for pronouncing "schedule" the British way with a "sh" sound rather than the American "sk" sound. Of course I checked when I got a chance and found I was right and he was wrong so I now feel empowered (another word to add to the annoying word list) to correct British people who say "skedule".

FFS, new hooks turned dup but the stand is too narrow for the bike???? It isn't wide enough to go past the rear axle! Must have bought it for a small bike. I'll have to buy a new one now!

It's not that your paddock stand is narrow, the setup on the mt07 is wide.

Mine is as wide as it'll go and then needs a little persuading to go wider.

I didn't realise it was so wide. I wrongly assumed the back tyre would be a 160!. Looks very chunky and nice, especially with the 8x6 number plate!

I persuaded it to be wider, hooked it on the bobbins, pushed it down and it didn't even take the weight of the rear wheel! God knows where it came from, but I'm sure I've actually used it on a bike before?! Time to search FB marketplace for a new one methinks...

You know the fact they're tourist likely means they don't live there or drive in said conditions, like ever, ever.

Of course (although I suspect a good many come every year!!). However, in dry conditions, albeit cold, then a roundabout is still a roundabout and a junction is still a junction. So then it is just manners?

In the snow, again, if you intend to drive yourself to a ski resort at the time of year when there is likely to be snow (or at least you can check and see if it's likely to snow) why would you not either, a - familiarise yourself with the chains you are legally required to carry in the car you intend to drive there, so that when they are necessary, you know how to put them on, or, b - put the correct tyres on for the place/conditions you are driving to/in!!


I do get that not all tourists are stupid but when you've dealt with as many on these roads as I have, you would also wonder why they don't either, equip their car properly or get a train/taxi. Or, in good (dry) conditions, why they insist on driving like fuckwits and causing queues where they wouldn't happen without the tourists!!!

In general, I don't judge so harshly in the snow cos it is difficult to drive in if you aren't used to it. But in that case, move over to let other people go past? As I've said before, I do that and I know how to drive in it - just that sometimes I drive slower than others (generally when I have passengers, I might be confident, but the passengers often aren't!!) so I pull over to let the others go past.

Simple politeness/manners/respect to other drivers, innit?

Put a 2nd starter battery in the work van but stuck it in the rear. Self drilling bolt was used for the earth strap through the alloy and then steel floor. Was still having issues and when investigating i took the bolt out and its factory attached washer fell off and looked like it had two. When i picked then up the lower one was rubber making me get a shit earth. Bastard

I do sometimes wonder about tourists. Years ago my sister said that she thought most tourists put their brain safely in a box and leave it on a high shelf in their kitchen!! Sometimes I agree, other times I think they are just fcking ignorant!!

By the time I drove home early evening, there was a lot of traffic coming down the mountain. There is a roundabout at the bottom of the mountain at a little village. Tourists leaving will all go left at the roundabout because that is the way to get out of the valley and onto the motorway. A few were joining the queue of traffic on the roundabout (having ignored the sign on the back road that they shouldn't go that way to get to the motorway!!)

When I got to the roundabout to go up to get home, there was one car in front of me. They weren't being bolshy enough and so no one was letting them into the queue. Eventually, they moved out a bit and after a few more cars not letting them in, they got in the queue - this left me at the roundabout, but I didn't want to join the queue, I was indicating to go UP where everyone else was coming down. Despite indicating clearly and even pointing with my hand that I wanted to go across the queue not into it, it took ten minutes of cars getting as close to the back of the one in front to prevent me getting across. What total fuckwiths


Second thing - 2/3 of the way up, there is a village that people driving down have to turn across the up traffic to get to. I was in a long queue of traffic going up (not as much as going down tho!!) and would anyone slow down (on a flat bit of road) to allow the car to turn across??? Would they fck I mean seriously, you 'lose' maybe 10 seconds? 20?? WTAF!!!!


I slowed and let the car cross and then did the same for a minibus at the next resort.

But honestly? Tourists shouldn't be allowed to drive to holiday resorts!!!

That's not tourists, it's drivers in general.

I get that every time I want to leave my road. Just to the left of the junction I pull out of is a pedestrian crossing. I sit at the junction indicating to turn right with a steady flow of traffic on the main road. But if someone has to stop for the pedestrian crossing, they won't stop far enough back to allow me out, they always stop across the junction blocking me. It's the same when I am turning right into my street across the traffic, nobody ever leaves that gap even though they are stopping.

For some reason it's an effing PITA getting post here this season (my RTTL buffs haven't arrived yet!) I'm still waiting on fed-ex to deliver a package I ordered on Dec 20th!

Last week I got a 'card' from the post office "we have a package for you, you need to come and collect it and pay €9". As I'm waiting on several packages I figured it was best to just stump and the € and hope. Today I finally managed to pay for and collect my package. I get home and open it to find it's a scarf from China, that I didn't order. I've no effing clue as to why it was sent and I really wish I hadn't paid €9 to collect it. Minimal information on the package so no point trying to chase it up.

From experience of posting parcels to friends in France, it can take weeks. One got lost / held up for about three weeks in the depot at Heathrow. My mate eventually got someone there on the phone who went and found it!
