Recovering in private room at the hozzy. It was a tricky one as finger had 2 breaks. 25mm plate and 5 screws.
They just numbed my arm and did the deed. 3 hours later I can sort of lift it but no control. A dead weight .
Keeping me in overnight to monitor the pain.
And bloody hungry but can't eat until they say so.

Once the nerve block wore off they gave me stuff via the drip.

I had a nerve block in my arm for a wrist operation. It was very surreal being awake during an op - it was a bit like being in an extremely clean garage, complete with the radio playing in the background and "what did you get up to at the weekend" banter between the staff. I became very protective of my limb afterwards, cuddling it in it's sling and stoking it like it was a new born baby. It was still completely numb when I went to bed where I rolled over in the middle of the night and hit myself in the head with it and woke myself up.

Being the 6th of Jan, and being very traditional in acknowledging Epiphany, I have just removed the Christmas-themed polish from my toenails. I now have very plain trotters.

Christmas is officially finished.

When I had my knee replaced I was on codeine phosphate, 2 tablets 4 times a day. I set my alarm so I woke up to take them and kept the most even dose in my body that I could be. Worked out really well and I didn't suffer like many do. Mind you I'm not a soft northern shandy drinker!

Coulda solved that for you - I didn't notice when the nerve block or local anaesthetic drip (which was pulled out accidentally by a daft nurse!) wore off. Only found out later that it was because the surgeon had stretched the nerved in my shoulder, so I had no feeling in my shoulder/arm at all!! Interesting !!

Glad tramadol does something for you though

I forgot to ask them for codeine phosphate (was a smidge stressed). None of the opiates work, if it plays up again I'll have to try that!! LOL

I slept on the sette in a sitting position as it was more comfortable, or my wife kicked me out for keep waking her up, I can't remember which? Anyway, I woke up in the night and I knew where I was, sort of, but couldn't remember who I was or who lived here with me.

I knew there were others here, but had no idea who. I looked around and my lounge door was really small and up high, like a Alice in Wonderland type thing! Eventually it wore off after a time stood still moment or three.

I knew there were others here, but had no idea who. I looked around and my lounge door was really small and up high, like a Alice in Wonderland type thing! Eventually it wore off after a time stood still moment or three.

I rang the on-call Nurse and she said stop taking them immediately and to use a combo of paracetamol and ibuprofen which worked well enough. I kept some codiene phosphates in case I ever felt the need to get trippy again!

No drug I've ever had has had that effect on me. I finally got my GP here to let me have Ibuprofen and Paracetamol as the mix works everso slightly better than just paracetamol. But TBF, neither of those options is particularly good. Just better to have something and maybe persuade my brain that drugs do work!! LOL

Codine phosphate gave me the worse constipation ever when I was on it for a broken elbow, to the point that I needed to see a doctor about my ring piece. I kid you not, it was so painful I didn't know my arse from my broken elbow.


One thing I would say, is that you medicate with both paracetamol and ibuprofen if the pain is bad. They're different medicine types, so not an issue and I've found 'leap-frogging' them, i.e. one type as per the instructions, then the other in between as per their instructions, works best for me.

As it is, I'm in fine fettle, so no need for anything, thanks for asking.

Wife cleared the decorations away on 6th, today I had the time and weather to remove the tree from the living room and chopped it in half for collection later this week. It is now by the front of garden for the recycling services to do their thing.

Popped into garage to test the TuneEcu reader that I ended putting n the wife's phone as my old android borked out. It works perfectly and I could check mapping etc. All as it should be.

Heading back into the Church in 10 minutes to be at a service and then leading the Evening Holy Communion service. Hope you are all enjoying the bright clear weather that us Southern Softies are enjoying at the moment.

Met up with my friend from Pitsea who makes his own herbal tea. I like to buy it in bulk from him as it's 100% organic and Fairtrade plus he's a really good guy, gives all the profits to local charities, etc. Today he was collecting food from the local supermarket for the food bank, which he was picking up in his little red Fiesta. Anyhow, I paid for my tea (plus a little donation for the donkey sanctuary he runs), which he gave me back in the zip-lock bag we always use, to avoid plastic waste of course, I gave him a hug and thanked him for the tea, and his endless contribution to good causes and we parted company.

All the time we were being stared at by this weird-looking, shifty, faux-Cockney geezer sat astride a Harley, complete with tassels and other chrome tat, almost like we were up to no good. Odd.

I've noticed my Mum's declining health in the last few months and I have mentioned it on here. My mind has been full with trying to work out what is best - nursing home, borrow against her house for more care at home and all the while harbouring a little resentment - "why me? why can't I have fun like everyone else?".

Something strange happened this morning. I woke up and all that was gone and without reason I knew exactly what to do. I packed a suitcase, picked up my laptops and headed over to hers where I am and will be for a while.

I phoned her doctors first thing and as the receptionist was saying in her nonchalant tone "well do you think you can bring her in?", something I've not been able to do for about five years, I blurted out "Because I think she is dying!". The receptionist's tone changed and she said "Yes, a doctor will be there at lunchtime".

The doctor came, we chatted about different drugs and then he started the conversation about end of life. He asked us if my Mum wanted to die at home or in hospital and we agreed home. He is going to refer her to The Martlets palliative care charity who will support us. He talked about prescribing drugs for here that will be ready to ease her pain when it's needed. In the hallway he explained that my Mum will probably have a heart attack that will end her life and in his experience, probably in the next couple of months.

I have spoken with my brother, my only sibling. Now I have to talk to my sons.

As the doctor left the room my Mum said "So I'm dying?". He didn't answer.

My Mum has Alzheimer's, COPD and heart failure. I don't know how much of his visit she will remember. For the rest of her days she will have me and the best that I can give.

You're far from alone here, many of us have been through similar.

I still sit and wonder at times if I did enough. But 99.9% of the time I know I did more than most.

All you can do is what feels right at the time for you and her. Anything and everything else will take care of itself
