First commute in today and it went very well. Still can't get used to how small it feels after my other bikes, but it certainly does you a favour on a commute into London! I suspect this is going to be a demon filter, short narrow and with instant grunt!

One thing that is very noticeable is how quiet everything is! Being tall both my other bikes screens put a fair amount of turbulence around my head, but nothing with this one. Holding my hand out and lifting I can feel the screen directs the airflow onto my chest and not my lid. So not much use really, but probably better than no screen? Being a clear screen I don't really see it, so it may stay whereas I'd thought id put a tinited one on?

Something I suffer with on bikes, is numb fingers as I ride with my fingers covering the levers and yes I get numb fingers on this, but I expected that even though I hoped it wouldn't be the case. Certainly not the worse bikes I've had for it though.

Again I was surprised that my hip and knee didn't ache with my feet being up that high and my knee bent at that angle, but nothing? Mind you I've just been put on Naproxen, so it may be them helping out, but either way its a win! :D I do find my shoulders aching a bit, which I suspect is the unfamiliar, leaning forward, riding position? If I don't get used to it, maybe I'll add bar risers or change the bars, speaking of which, I do find the bars narrow and seem to be riding with my outer palms on the grip edge/bar end? Again, I suspect I'll get used to it?

These bikes get criticised fr their suspension, particularly the front end. Getting on and off it, the bike does feel softly sprung and will deffo be under sprung for my weight! But on my commute, it works well. I hit unavoidable bumps and potholes and it soaks them up better than the NCX, so any suspension mods will be way down the line.

Riding it normally, it's a very unassuming bike, typically Japanese you could say. You pootle through traffic and could be on a 250 it's so sedate and efficient at it, unlike something like my old 690 which would be begging and swearing at you to feed it some more juice! :D But, crack the throttle open and the engine reminds you of its capabilities. I felt a bit of front wheel lift over a crest whilst accelerating this morning. 8-)

I could do with hearing the body thing though. I ride with earplugs and can only feel things as there is no audible engine note from the exhaust. I'd love to drop an Akra in there, but at around £500 for a second-hand one, I can't see that happening. Well I say that...

Early days of course, but as a commuter its...

Don't upset me by fitting a cheapo exhaust.... either do it right or don't do it at all.

There are 'fixes' for the noise, mostly brutal and using a big drill !

I have of course been looking at all options and most stick out and look odd. Okay I ride tehbike more than look at it, so any exhaust would give me an audible benefit, but only the akra and SC project below look right to me, with the akra winning out of the two.

that Akra is without doubt for me the best looking of the exhaust choices.

I'm far less fussy in terms of noise than you though, so i kinda don't mind it.

@Couchy has a 'high seat' available. I was going to have it off him, but it sounds like you may need it more than i do. It's brand new and unused. They're £130 or so at Yamaha. I think it's 30mm raise. May be an idea to buy/try ? Worst case, if you don't like it, i'll take it off you afterwards.

Doens't look too bad at all! They seem to favour the shorter can as the longer ones stick out awkwardly.
