OK, looks like this is in trouble. Engine is very noisy and i suspect lack of oil pressure.
After some reading i have found that the engine uses something called a centrifugal spinner
to separate particles out of the oil. The spinner sits on the end of the crank and can become
blocked with sludge stopping oil flow to the crank. Unfortunately the only way to
get to them is a full engine strip.
Judging by the knocking noises i think it might be too late anyway .
Shame as the engine now starts first kick and ticks over lovely.

Reluctantly we decided to sell the BMW , i wanted to strip it myself but its just not the right time
for me so onto E Bay. Made a healthy £5k so owner is happy and i may be dragging one
of his other bikes out soon for another try.
