You used to see these run with the cat in place and no end can at all. IIRC it made a nice sound like that and I guess you could run full sized panniers both sides with that setup, well, assuming someone makes them?

That's how I run the Rockster. Makes it a lot easier to get the rear wheel off. The 'tip' is from another catalyser box. IIRC it went through the MOT like that last time, volume accepted is down to the testers discretion... (But its not that loud tbh)
And yes I have a full size left pannier, from an RT (or possibly an RS, they both came with lower exhausts as standard.)

New tyres fitted today and plenty of bolt on tat removed. It even had little rubber guards to protect the previous owners delicate toes from dirt. What is it with GS owners making them more like cars and bolting shit to them

Have a look on UKGSer forum and the amount of bolt on shit and cup holders will amaze you ........ i never did understand the flap things under the cylinder heads but some people love an add on just to make it look "adventure"

Today was the day, a 25 mile spin to see if the bike runs and rides ok. I can report it does no issues. Comfy handles lovely. A massive long throttle and first gear and very old fashioned but quicker than its 85hp suggests

Stripped GS rear down today, indicators were different lengths as it had pannier rails on. Put 2 new ones on. Also sent rear rack off to be powder coated black instead of silver. Put riders seat into high position too. Just the engine bars to remove now as they weigh the same as the bike

IIRC on all the R259 series the ABS was an option. Most ABS bikes used the ABS ring & sensor as the speedo timing signal as well, but for non-ABS bikes it depends on whether or not the speedo is an analogue cable-driven one, or digitally driven. The GS has (IIRC) a spinney cable driven speedo from the front, Some K-series bikes, the R1100S and Rockster had digital speedos and so there was a castellated ring on the crown gear (just pushed on!) that was 'read' by a sensor that dropped into the top of the Final Drive.

I've remembered on my K-RS the ABS sensor is bolted on the end of the caliper, it's actually a speedo sensor in the FD.
