Same reasons I pay for Spotify @ £9.99/month (I think I also get a service with Amazon Prime but haven't used it). It mainly gets used in the car but I'll occasionally binge listen at home. If you are thinking of getting an all-in-one, (radio, streamer, amp, speakers) have a listen/look at the Naim Mu-so. I've got the little cube one which is fine for what it's used for - music-while-u-cook but the bigger 2nd gen one gets good reviews and is a thing of engineered beauty. The one connected via the main hi-fi is a Naim Uniti something or other. I was also going to use it to connect the hi-fi to the TV for better sound but never got round to getting the right connector....maybe with the next TV.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 8:51 amI pay £9.99/month for Deezer premium, for that I get (I think) 300-somehing kbs, which is a long way short of Tidal and CD but for the most part I don't mind cause I'm listening while running, working etc. I believe you can also pay for Deezer elite which is closer to 1000.Count Steer wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 9:24 pm Tidal is pretty good....but is an eye-watering £20/month for hi-fi/master quality so the 30 day trial is as far as I got.
I normally listen through my phone and decent Sony headphones....the W1000XM3 or something, the good ones!.....however it'd be nice to go back to "full room" music. One of the reasons I haven't bothered with a higher bit rate service is cause the phone+headphones combo doesn't support it anyway.
TBF the primary reason I pay for streaming is to lose the ads, get unlimited skips and additional offline playlists, not for the higher bit rate. Not having ads is worth a tenner a month all by itself.

Re: Streaming box for separates Hi-Fi
I've seen the Naim....however there is a very specific reason I want an old style set up!
I have an xBox game I play with Mrs D, hopefully one day soon Baby Dazzle will play it to. Its like Guitar Hero, only you plug in a real electric guitar via a 1/4" to USB conversion cable. If you have anything other than an old fashioned audio connection out of the xBox its too slow! Even using the TV speakers adds a noticeable delay and HDMI is like half a second.

Re: Streaming box for separates Hi-Fi
My Uniti has an analog/digital input audio type socket* on the front (and usb) on the front panel but I've no idea whether the processing lag might be noticeable.
The usb is mainly for music on memory sticks and software upgrades (if you can't do them over wi-fi).
* It detects/selects analog/digital automatically.

Not *exactly* what you're after, but I use Sonos and there's a product they have to stream to my hi-fi. It's not standalone as such as you'd be buying into the whole Sonos thing, but it's very good.
Ridiculously expensive though... I got mine from eBay I think. But if you have other Sonos speakers around the place then it's a good option.

Re: Streaming box for separates Hi-Fi
Deezer Hi-Fi (used to be 'Elite') is 1411 kbps FLAC, same as Tidal. I never really understood Tidal's offering in that their 'USP' was the quality, but with limited music and a massive price, when Deezer have been doing the same for years, at a much lower price. Mind you, I stopped paying for the Deezer Elite/Hi-Fi a few years ago as I mainly listen on Sonos speakers or my Mac (albeit with decent desk speakers) so it didn't seem worth it. My lovely hi-fi gets little use these days for just music.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 8:51 amI believe you can also pay for Deezer elite which is closer to 1000.

I suspect young Dazzle is suggesting that Apple have exacted a premium for many years based on a claimed USP for goods that you can get at a lower price that will basically do all the same things, like computing and telephone calls etc.

Well, I assume everyone here rides a Hyosung, wears a Casio and shops at Lidl
(Plus, if you can find a PC even today that has the same specs as my 4 year-old Mac, I'll be impressed.)

£9.95 - but to be so hip your legs fall off you'll need an original.Slenver wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 5:21 pmOh shit, really? *Goes off to Amazon....*

I have nothing much against Apple, it just tickles me that they constantly claim to be innovativing and inventing stuff which they clearly didn't. Tesla are the same. I imagine there's alot of ownership overlap.
