The great and good flying into Glasgow on presidential jets and swanning about in motorcades to tell the little people that we've all got to do more to save the planet.

However, you don't think that if they do 1 drop of water (metaphorically speaking) to save a gallon is a good idea ? Sometimes you need to weigh up the short term cost and the long term gain.
If getting together they end up dropping the carbon consumption in the next 10 years by 50%, then surely it's worthwhile having the odd plane trip ?

Yeah, but then I'd have nothing to feel a sense of petty injustice about about on a Tuesday morning .weeksy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 9:35 amHowever, you don't think that if they do 1 drop of water (metaphorically speaking) to save a gallon is a good idea ? My issue with COP26 is the veneer of world leaders giving impassioned speeches, paying lip service to the zeitgeist this week, rolling up in electric vehicles for the cameras before going home and doing the same ol' same ol'.
Ditto Jeff Bezoz. The same bloke who's pushing space tourism, which, and I'm no expert here so correct me if I'm wrong, isn't exactly carbon neutral nor that essential really, shmoozing on the COP26 gig. Maybe he got their on his private jet. Or mega yacht. Who knows?

I think after the success of the secret Covid meeting 2 years ago where nigh on every single country in the world agreed to hoodwink an entire planet with a fake disease. It's really good that they are now getting together once again to do something positive and I'm sure an agreement will be reached in no time at all !

Yes, because that Paris conference a few years ago solved so many climate issues.weeksy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 9:35 amHowever, you don't think that if they do 1 drop of water (metaphorically speaking) to save a gallon is a good idea ? Lights...on everything, little red ones, blue ones, yellow ones. Extension cables, electronic items, telephone handsets. Even when some stuff is off, satellite box, tv...still got a little light on. Charging the electric flosser...it's like the eye of bloody Sauron. Turn all the house lights off and some rooms still look like a fairground ride.

It's the fact they stay on after you've unplugged it that's really weird
ISTR it's cause the LED is a convenient sink for a capacitor used in the rectifier or something like that...it uses up any power stored in the capacitor, which you legally have to do so an unplugged device isn't still "live". That's why so many things have LEDs (besides the obvious use of letting you know things are on).

We've got about 20 outside lights to light up the garden and driveway. Costs about 1p per hourCount Steer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 8:06 pm Lights...on everything, little red ones, blue ones, yellow ones. Extension cables, electronic items, telephone handsets. A while back I counted ours. About 20 when I turned the lights off to go to bad. And that was without anything left charging. Worst are the BT router that has a night job as a blue wall illuminator, and the freezer that does the same job in green for the floor.

Was it Einstein who said doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of madness? How many times before have they done this same thing? My guess is about 25.

Not necessarily with the same people, not necessarily with the same backing from the public. The other alternative is we all just say Fuck It and give up trying to fix the climate for the future generations, would that be better ? No, of course it wouldn't. I'm not saying this is the answer, but it's a try, an attempt... Therefore, i'm all for it.Saga Lout wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 12:54 amIf is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.weeksy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 9:35 amHowever, you don't think that if they do 1 drop of water (metaphorically speaking) to save a gallon is a good idea ? Maybe I've been too hard on Musk. Maybe he's looking at colonising other planets for us to plunder and ruin....

MAybe you're just being an arse and quite bitter about the world. Who knows. Sometimes i get confused on this place by the depths of despair, cynicsym and bitterness that so many of you seem to carry round with you.
Can't you just see the world in a happier/nicer context ? there's enough shit going on without you having it at the forefront of your mind every minute of the day ?

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Maybe you're taking my glib attempts at humour way too seriously, My comment was meant as a joke (I do actually believe that Musk has a island in the South Pacific, complete with sliding cover over the volcano crater and a working monorail*, but even interstellar travel is a bit far-fectched, even for him), because, as you say, life is shit enough, what with my M-I-L dying of dementia and my F-I-L suffering a breakdown dealing with it, my wife having to deal with both their issues, losing my B-I-L to cancer last year and a good friend to the same cancer this year, plus my mum's on-going travails with bladder cancer. So when I post on here, generally it's light-hearted and maybe a bit to subtly ironic. Maybe the humour misses by a country mile sometimes. One think I guarantee is that I never come on here to moan or to bring people down. We all have shit in our daily lives for that.weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 9:28 amMAybe you're just being an arse and quite bitter about the world. Who knows. To quote Guy Ritchie, 'Chill, Winston'.
To quote my yoga teacher, 'Namaste'
