R1200RT-P

Well, I'm kind of looking at one of these as the K is just so ballistically fast and I'm keen to keep my license and all that.

What is the knowledge of these bikes? 2007 bike, with rebuilt ABS pump, 25k miles, so just about run in. Should I run away screaming, or is it a bike that can provide fun and enjoyable riding.

Any way of finding out which police force owned it? There might be a possibility of one of our tame BiB pulling a favour to check its background ...

25k is very low mileage. Have you checked MoT records online?

Was it police, or possibly DVSA? (DVSA won't have had all the bells and whistles. Either way, it will (should) have been serviced by the book. If police it's likely to have had a mix of being ridden carefully and mercilessly.

Get a good test ride, it will be very different to your k.

Yes P is for police, but also used by others who need single seat etc.

Still awaiting more details, photos and reg so I can do an MOT check. 3 owners so far, started off as police bike from what I am told.

The old throttle works 2 ways yanno. ;)

If you find it doesn't,then there's always room for a bit of pastorial work in her Majesty's prisons,cake and eat it. :lol:

IIRC they also have a "low" first gear to make riding at walking pace easier .

The R12RT is a very good bike. I'd be cagey of early ones though, they sometimes have electrical gremlins.

Did a three month placement in the prisons. No thanks!! And yes, throttle does go both ways, but I want a change in the style of power delivery.

I actually did a bit of research on R1200's a few years back.

They say the post 2010 bikes have much better engines. I can't remember the details but the heads/cams are different. You can spot the later motor from the shape of the plug covers.

I looked it all up too when I was looking at GSs. They've changed it loads!

I suspect the GS also has more variations 'cause it's the big seller and would have always got the latest and greatest.

It was acquired with 11,400 miles on it and has been ridden to 25k with servicing every 3k. No further details on servicing yet.

There's something about cam chain tensioners too, the one in the left hand pot (as you sit on the bike) isn't as good as the right pot... or its something to do with running on the side stand. It's been ages since I looked into this shit...I cheaped out and bought an £1800 KRS instead :)

I think that's more the 1150 than the 1200.

The old cct on the 1150 didn't hold onto oil so tended to be loose on start up. The CCTs are pressurised by the oil pump.
