Well, I've only completed 100 miles on it so far (that will change this week!) and it is definitely fun for me. The Duke seems like it would be on another scale.

Yeah me too. Even my wife thinks it looks awesome, and she really hates ktms!

There's loads of options for the exhaust - the austin racing ones are pretty nice, but they're loud and expensive. The ixrace ones are pretty nice as well, and cheaper (http://ixrace.net/index.php?id_category ... &id_lang=2) but I'm not sure how quickly, or whether I'll change it. I know it's a bit weird, but I quite like the standard can! The rear pegs will come off which will make it look a bit nicer, and I'll keep my eyes out for a 2nd hand pillion seat cover. Then I'll buy some nicer tyres.

From what I've heard the standard cans sound decent. I don't even mind the looks much, not sure I'd bother changing if it was me.

Been doing a lot of riding and still really enjoying the 790! I fitted a Racing Radiator Guards erm...radiator guard. Pretty simple, and you can either secure it in place with zip ties or lockwire through the rad fins. I chose the lockwire. It looks ok, but the main thing is that the rad should have a bit more protection now.

I spend most of the time in track mode, with the sport throttle, the anti-wheelie turned off and traction control right down. The bike seems to be smoother this way.

On the 790 FB group, there's a guy selling kits to remove the free play in the throttle which are getting good reports (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313456718868 ... SwkG1gT7zG) so might get one of those as they're about £8 if you get it via the group - otherwise all other mods are off for the time-being as I've just bought a new car as we were running out of boot space.

Had to pop to the dealer this week for a warranty issue… the front sprocket seal needed replacing as I had a slight weep.

I’ve got the new upgraded part in there now so that should be me sorted. Damn good service at Jim Aims though, arrived at just gone 9 and was on my way by about 9:45.

Still really happy with it, aside from either 690 or an 890r there’s nothing else I’d rather have at the moment. I like the 765 street triples but I don’t feel like I want to own one.

It’s nearly new tyre time as well. The oem maxxis aren’t brilliant to begin with but nearly worn out maxxis really aren’t good at all! Will be s22 or power 5 I think.

Relatively insignificant in the scheme of things admittedly and easy to forgive it when it's as good a bike as the 790/890 is, but I just don't understand why they haven't sorted that issue yet- it's been around since the first 2018 ones, my 2020 890R had it too within 300 miles

Good to hear all generally good and you're enjoying it though :thumbup:

Don't write off sports touring tyres if you only ride on the road. I've got PR5's at the moment and they, and the 4s, have been great on my 690 despite it's lack of weight and they'll last longer than sports tyres too. Compared to the M7RR's the 690 came on I reckon they would have been better on track and maybe had a smidge of extra 'grippy' feel when hooning but the PR4's gripped better from cold, had more grip than I could use and lasted about 2k miles extra before feeling pants. I've not felt any real difference between the 4's and 5's so we'll see if there is any difference in longevity but I'm unlikely (I hope) to have the bike to that point.

Conti road attack 3's ( I think they are), Metzeler Roadtec and Angel GT's are supposed to be good too. I seem to recall reading the Conti's don't last as long but feel more sporty.

Haha, I may have read the same test.

I had pr4s on a Blade I had a few years back, I quite liked them actually and they didn't appear to wear down at all in the 5k or so miles I did on the bike. So they may be an option. I had pilot power 2cts on the old 790 and the r1 I had before that, and they were so quick to turn in that I thought it might be time to try some more modern sporty tyres. Anything will be better than the Maxxis - they've not lost grip or anything, they just feel slow to turn and even more so as they wear!

@Tricky Yeah, it's just a small thing and I'm hoping the upgraded part (which I thought was already on all 2020 models but apparently not) should stop it happening. A repeat will be less forgivable, but I'm not going to worry about that unless it happens. It's proper fun to ride, and I'm enjoying riding more now than I ever did on sportsbikes so that'll do for me.

I ran Pilot Power 2ct on my ZX10R and really liked them,so when it came tyre time on the Zed I thought I'd try the new Power 5. Absolutely lovely tyre,made it feel you could let the bike fall into the turn and not even bother holding on. They grip forever.

2k in and there are signs of the rear squaring off and as a consequence that sweet turn in is less noticeable,but still ok. I reckon there'll be no more than another 1k of wear left in the rear. The front looks to be ok still.

I think next time around I'll try the PR5 as the Power 5 is probably more than I need for the road and I'd expect better wear from the PR.

I went for the Power 5 in the end, fitted last weekend. Obviously a massive improvement over the Maxxis, the bike just feels so much nicer and roads seem a lot less bumpy now. I was going to go with the more sensible Road 5, but these will do me for at least a year so that's fine for now.

Turns out they're good in the wet too - was riding home in a massive downpour earlier this week that caused a bit of flash flooding - I rode through puddles that were up over the footpegs... not at all nice, but the tyres did a good job. No slips or slides and I had the TC up on it's highest setting and it didn't kick in at all.

That reminds me of the October 2000 floods when I was running in my brand new ZX9R E1 and I had a journey to work in apocalyptic rain and as I went over the River Uck Bridge I had water coming over my legs and boots. I suspect not many made it over the bridge after me as Uckfield had flooded by the time I got to work!

Got myself a nice exhaust hanger so I could remove the pillion pegs - they're proper heavy, so with that weight gone I'm 1s a mile faster on my commute...

Looks nicer though, I'll be on the look out for a cowl to replace the rear seat over winter I think.

Otherwise, just having lots of fun when I get out. No matter how hard I try, it's really difficult to ride sensibly!

When i test rode Mofos i thought "i wonder if this will be a disappointment after the XSR900" and mostly it wasn't. Not at all.

Decided to treat the 790 (well, me) to some better brake pads, so went for some SBS Evo Sinter. I've had the Street Sinter (now called street performance) before on a few bikes and have been happy - these are meant to be better so I guess we'll see.

I was going to get them from Carpimoto, but their min order to the UK is EU150 at the moment due to covid stuff, so got them from WSC performance who didn't have them in stock but reckon they'll be with me by tomorrow. Cheapest I could find too.

Hard to argue with SBS pads, in terms of performance and price, they're about the best out there for me. Sure, something like the super Brembo pads arguably work better on track, but that's about it.... the SBS are great.
