Vmx project. 82 Xr 500.

Post by DW. »

Well don't know if I'm supposed to post this here or in the off-road area, but in the past 12 months that I've been absent from the forum I finally got stuck into my vintage enduro/mx build.

It's my old Xr500. They're pulling stupid money over here at the moment, so I thought I would rebuild it and make some coin.
Drama is I'm having a few issues tracking down a few parts to finish it off. I gather most of this forum are road bike people, but thought I would try me luck and see if there's any dirt squirter guys on here.

Ok. File won't attach. Give me a second. I'll show you all a picture of it

Thanks for the reply's blokes, appreciate it. I have tried googlising it and the Biggest drama with trying on the net is it always seems to default to the bloody States. Australia seems to be too yankerfied. 70% of the bike community over here still all want to own Harleys. (Notice I didn't say ride Harley's). Most Harley owners here can't ride for sh-t.
So the Brits are still mph ay? Suppose you still measure fluid in gallons as well?

Trying Japan is a good idea, but how do I get the net to sole search the japan sites? I can speak a little japanese, but can't read it.

A super clean bike man.

You could try a Japanese website called Webike. They do stock parts and accessories. Pretty fast postage from Japan to N.Ireland.

I'll put in the link, but since all the server/certificate bollox recently there are sites I can't get on. Maybe it'll work for you.

Some sites are in English. You could try Japan.webike.net I think they're in Japan and may be a starting point.

Hmm...drew a blank on there for Honda speedo. I'll have a Google.

Thanks for the links Fella's. I'll have a sticky tomorrow as it's nearly midnight here. Thanks for the help and the good comments. I think everyone would respect the time and effort put into it.
Will be good to get it done though. No point cutting corners now after I've put this much effort in.
I actually found a headlight complete in India, but who knows if it will get here. I took a gamble and paid the $80 Aud through PayPal (so probably $20 over there). If it turns up, it turns up.

Skub beat me to it with the last one but you could also try en.impex-jp.com. You'll need model and frame number but the model name may vary from country to country. Haven't used them so it may or may not be what you need.

Doesn't CMSNL allow to you search for all models and areas? You might be able search by part number then.

Yeah mate. That's what I need. I tried doing a few searches with the part number. Googled it on every platform I can think of and all come up with no longer available.
It's a real bugger. I just keep searching everyday and see if one pops up. I'm hoping we get a few people reading this and someone might have one lying around.
I appreciate everyones help by the way.

JDM XRs had kph speedos, but XR500s were rare, if it has the same Speedo as the XR250 and 600 you may find one.

Can’t you strip it down and fit a km decal (the cheap option)

or try here http://www.guagerepairs.com/
