Just on moving son and DiL in to their first owned* house. They’ve been in a rented house for the last 18 months since they married, but they’ve managed to get a deposit and mortgage sorted and picked up the keys on Friday.

New guttering on the front of the house- 3 horizontal, 2 vertical on 3 walls

New towel rail in the bathroom

Had BBQ yesterday before the MotoGP. Somehow managed to get everybody inside to watch the race at 8:00.

Then partied till midnight.

some month ago I way driving back from yoga, with a sense of serenity, obviously, when I came upon an upturned car. Fella had flipped it just prior to me turning a corner. Anyhow, being a decent sort of bloke, I helped him out of the vehicle, did a bit of first aid, stayed with him whilst the police and ambulance turned up and finally gave him my mobile number as his mum (who's car it was) lived down in Hastings and we had no idea when she would turn up. Told him if he was stranded he could have a cuppa at my place whilst he waited.

Heard no more about it.

Just had a text from him, saying thanks a million, how he appreciated my help, how it had restored his faith in human nature, etc. and that he would like to make a donation to a charity of my choosing. He apologised for the delay but was advised not to contact anybody until the police had closed their files, and presumably 'til his mum had calmed down for wrecking her new Micra.

Jumped into the pool after the enduro ride and saw a tennis ball. Went to grab it and saw a baby gecko clinging to it

Too many drown in the pool so was good to see a clever one which I could save.

I was doing a home visit when the person received a phone call from the hospital to let her know that the chemo had been so successful that the operation would be very simple and effective! So we had a laugh and lots of happiness together, then I celebrated the Eucharist with joy and gave thanks.

Too many drown in the pool so was good to see a clever one which I could save.

I have a problem like that with flies when the cover is off, they dive in for a drink and then find it's not like a normal pond and there's nowhere to climb out. We leave some plastic floating lilies they can climb onto and dry out before flying away, there might be something similar like gecko ladders you can use.

We leave some plastic floating lilies they can climb onto and dry out before flying away, there might be something similar like gecko ladders you can use.

Cool idea. I often find them clinging to wall just above the water line, unable to climb the small overhang.
I check every day.

Very insignificant really - I had to have a blood test this morning (more menopause/WTF is going on tests FFS )

I've been pretty much phobic about needles and so blood tests (and blood doning) for ever.

I say pretty much as I generally get in a bit of a state, can't watch the blood going into the vials and definitely can't watch the needle - when I was 20, a nurse asked me to put my finger on the cotton wool over the needle as she pulled it out and I fainted when I saw the needle move (couldn't see the end in me cos of the cotton wool!). Not actually phobic I think because as long as I don't look at the entry point/see the needle/see any blood, I can deal with it. I do get seriously stressed and have problems dealing with it all. But I suspect that isn't actually phobic!!

I've got better at controlling the reaction, partly because in reeducation I had one every week - with nurses of varying competence!!


This morning the local nurse came to do the test. I know she is good and doesn't jab the needle in then chase a vein that she missed!! LOL

Today she used a vein in my right arm (most avoid that because I couldn't hold my arm in a decent way due to the USD replacement!) - we chatted and we decided the vein was much easier because it's only been used once in the last 4 years! LOL All the other tests have had to be in the left arm, wrist, hand


So, not only did I barely feel the needle going in. But I was able to watch her filling the vials (is that the right word?) without getting spinny! I also watched the needle come out - still with cotton wool covering the entry point


So - short version of long story! With the local nurse, at least, I appear to have dealt with the 'sort of' phobia and dizziness and fainting

Which, bizarrely, makes me very very happy!!

The heating is on. THe heating is on.

Bit daft to be happy about it really but in general the heating in the building doesn't come on until December (maybe late November) which is generally ok until we have an extra cold snap!!

This last week has been Baltic - to the point that I've kept the window closed at night (I never close overnight normally - even in winter as all the other apartments have their heating on so it gets stuffy and I prefer fresh air!!)

I'm guessing that because so many of the apartments are rented to builders this interseason, some of the owners have pushed for the heating to be on. Kinda weird to turn it on on Saturday morning cos few of them stay the weekend LOL But, I'm not complaining


My rads are turned right down, but it's just warm enough to make it comfortable in here, not bastard cold!

The dog has realised that he likes figs, so now he lies under the fig trees in the garden waiting for one to fall, sometimes helped by the parrots or crows that land in the tree for the fruit themselves.

It tickles me that he gets up whenever he feels like and wanders over looking for a snack, and sometimes he'll lie/sit there waiting for one to fall.
But it annoys me cleaning extra shit up and worries me that he'll catch a bird flu.

My dog eats the leaves from a particular plant in the woods. No idea what it is, but she sniffs them out, rips off a leaf and snaffles it down. Repeat ad infinitum.

She's also partial to blackberries, but hasn't mastered taking them off with her teeth. I have to be careful how many I give her, coz, just like the figs, blackberries have an undesirable effect and it's me has to pick it up.....
