'Science Of Being Seen' (SOBS) - created in 2012 for Kent Fire & Rescue's international road safety award-winning Biker Down, SOBS is an in-depth investigation of the most common motorcycle crash of all - the 'Sorry Mate I Didn't See You' or SMIDSY collision. SOBS looks at driver visual perception and workload, and how it affects ability to see motorcycles, and takes an objective look at the relative ineffectiveness of the usual conspicuity aids, before suggesting some pro-active measures any rider can take. SOBS has been used on Biker Down courses across the UK, featured on the New Zealand 'Shiny Side Up' rider safety initiative in 2018, 2019 and 2021 and has been delivered live to US audiences as part of the REVVtalks series of online seminars with riding experts from around the world. See the original with the most up to date research.

Howard Askew wrote to me recently, talking about a Biker Down course he attended in Kent before lockdown:

"...the [Biker Down] course was very good about what to do in the EVENT of an accident, but you were the only person who was giving strategic advice on AVOIDING becoming a casualty. It's all about avoiding those nasty accidents... I met you and bought your book... I think it's important that everyone who can afford buys a copy... I like the fact that you continue to research the subject... you made a Despatch Rider from 1978 to 1985 think outside of the box... well done and I am glad your research is spreading"

And I'll just quickly read you some feedback from the last one:

...Paul C - Thank you Kevin. The books support the explanations you've given. Very enjoyable.

...Brian M Thanks, Kevin found it very interesting, I have the book as well

...Clive - That was useful. Thanks Kevin.

...Paul In Shanghai - Excellent Kevin. As is often said, one never stops learning!

...Bruce E - All good thanks Kevin, read twice, seen twice, always learn each time!

If you've already booked, the link to the presentation is going out at lunchtime today.
