Adaptive Cruise Control

Post by KungFooBob »

So BMW are developing the above for motorcycles, it's essentially radar/lidar controlled so the cruise slows you down as you catch up with the vehicle in front.

I'm in two minds...

1. I've driven a car (a VW Passat) with this system and it's great for sitting on highways, I drove from Doncaster to Peterbog on the A1 without touching the throttle or brake. It's a neat safety feature that's sure to reduce cruise related accidents.

2. I use traditional cruise control ALOT in the car, I bang it on in every 30mph zone and on the motorway, but I've never ever been out on a bike and thought, damn, I wish I had cruise, never mind adaptive cruise.

And where are they going to put the radar sensor thingy?

Likewise,I use it in the wagon all the time. I love the freedom of totally watching the road in a 30/40 zone without checking on numbers.

On the bike,I can't see me ever wanting to use it unless it was a necessary long motorway journey or some such, but if it was I'd probably take the car anyway....

If I'm in my car the CC is on 90% of the time, just basic council spec none of your adaptive fancy pants stuff.

I'm umming n arring about putting CC on the Harley, it's 'only' 300 quid, but realistically it'd only get used on M-ways when commuting.

Seems Ducati, Harley & KTM all started playing with the idea, along with Bosch, of adaptive cruise in 2018, so it sounds like it's coming soon.
