Deposit paid.
I’ve been torn between buying secondhand or just biting the bullet and buying new.
Secondhand prices are so strong just now I decided just to pay the extra few grand and get exactly what I wanted.
I’ve put a deposit down on a 1250 GS with a few extras like spotlights, heated and lowered seats.
I could have had it at the end of November but it would just be going into the shed so I’ll leave it till March when the new reg comes out.
Only 5 months to wait.

Re: Deposit paid.
I just couldn't do it.
I'd want it now, even if I wasn't going to ride it.
I'd just go sit on it in the garage every so often!

Thats a hell of a lead time
I would love a brand new bike, made to spec but I think I would struggle with that depreciation from new - Both that and like KFB I am an impatient bastard

5 months?
I had to wait a couple of weeks and I bought stuff before I even took delivery.
You are obviously a patient man. Scotsrich.

Heated seats on a GS! Cool. Well, warm but....oh never mind. They're great because they keep the blood in the big arteries/veins in the 'groinal area' warm, which helps the rest of you stay warm as that blood circulates.
Look forward to a comprehensive review on the difference the new engine makes (1150 to 1200 was a big one)....in 6 months time

Re: Deposit paid.
A later 1150 (early 2000's) is a far better option if you go down that route, especially the twin spark engined ones. I had one that was an excellent all round bike, i just missed the acceleration and speed of a sports bike so got the best of both worlds in the Multistrada, power engine and upright comfortFelix wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 9:56 pm Funny as im a tight bastard i was looking at the original 1100 GS's the other night. Re: Deposit paid.
Interesting as there is not much between price but..... the 1100 on paper looks the better bike. OK 9BHP less but spit of a larger tank but loosing that on MPG. Slower standing 1/4 what the bike is not about. 5MPH slower. Have you had both??? Not a great deal between price TBH and lots at the 60 - 70K mileage mark what i presume with service history (ish) they can handle. I am tall and reaching 58 at the end of the month. Arse up head down does nothing for me hence making a RAT out my last three bikes as its all about comfort now but liked the BM GS range since day one.

Re: Deposit paid.
Probably all comes down to condition of the bike you can get at a price. Tony of Flash Tours wasn't exactly slow on an 1100, as the folk who have been will testify. Personally, I think the 1150 is a better looking bike (as long as it's yellow ) than the 1100, 1200 and 1250 but that's just personal preference. The 1150 was my favourite of the bikes I've had, justFelix wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 1:58 am Interesting as there is not much between price but..... the 1100 on paper looks the better bike. Re: Deposit paid.
I had a quick shot of a 1250 before I signed up. I knew I was going for it, it was just confirmation really. (Although there was a 1250 RS that I was really really tempted by but resisted)Count Steer wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 8:50 pm Heated seats on a GS! Cool. Well, warm but....oh never mind. Only about 45 minutes and the roads were a bit damp so bearing in mind I was on the hook for the first £1k of damage I concerned more on how the engine felt.
I only had the 1200 a few weeks but the 1250 seemed a smoother engine (not that a boxer can ever really be described as smooth).
Noticeably more torque and for an old man’s bike it can get a shift on if you try just by using the mid range.
Quickshifter was smoother but still only really usable from 3rd which is to be expected.
Oddly enough the biggest impression was how easy it was to get moving from standstill with very little throttle.
It definitely was a noticeable step up from the 1200.
Would I have traded the 1200 in for a 1250 in normal circumstances?
Probably not.
The 1200 was a good enough bike and if it proved reliable in the 2 year warranty period it had it was almost certainly going to be my last bike.
If every penny counted I’d have been quite happy buying another similar bike but I was in the position of having spare cash (cheers late FiL) so it seemed the obvious move.

Re: Deposit paid.
I prefered my 1100GS to my 1150GS. The 1150 just felt, bigger, heavier and a lot less usable then my 1100.Felix wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 9:56 pm Funny as im a tight bastard i was looking at the original 1100 GS's the other night. Re: Deposit paid.
I’ve decided just to get it delivered (no cost) otherwise I’d need to either scrounge a lift or catch a bus.
It’ll go into a mates garage till I get the Helibars on it so it can go into my shed.
Excited? moi?
