I have to agree, the amount of times I’ve sat and watched that class especially as they all come down the start finish towards turn 1 and say “oh ya fucker”……..it’s utter madness! I always think “someone is going down”.

You only ever get that in the other classes with maybe one or two riders, notably Toprak versus JR into turn 1 or maybe Toprak versus Scott etc, granted we were getting three abreast at the weekend there into turn 1 at times but it never had that feeling where it could go horrible wrong and chances are the riders would be fine anyway.

With the 300’s there is that many involved that you don’t get that same feeling, the way they weave across on the straight is ridiculous, that in itself is so dangerous, so close to clipping the other riders every lap which has happened and will happen again.

It's the way the race series are designed? When someone or a bike becomes too dominant, they change rules etc to keep the bikes performance as close as they can.

And isn't that really what the audience wants to see? Close racing, equal'ish machinery where the rider makes the difference?

That's it in a nutshell... whilst i don't know if youngsters should be allowed to race at 13, i'd be a bit of a hypocrite if i said no as my 13 year old races DH. Which is fairly dangerous too. But there's no doubting that the racing is that close that accidents can happen and riders can get mixed up in it... But that's what the nature of the beast is, close battles on a world stage to bring youngsters up to the top level.

Harsh as it may seem, sometimes you have to accept 'shit happens' and it's not a blame, fault or problem, just a circumstance of racing bikes.

From my point of view we help out with my mates lad who races minibikes and has done since he was 4, he's now 8. The crashes still happen and you do hear folk saying they shouldn't be racing. I'm sure though we all as kids hurt ourselves just as much on push bikes or motorbikes. Where do you draw the line ?

It's shit when a rider is badly injured or killed,but race fans/tv demand close spectacular racing. Witness the fans petty moaning when a rider (Doohan/Rea) is dominant. To get the show,there is always going to be the risk of it going wrong. Everyone skirts the issue of what is acceptable risk,but the bottom line is,motorsport can never be perfectly safe.

Safety has improved out of all measure and credit to those involved,this has mostly been achieved without interfering with the sport.

It's a fine line between letting folk race and using rules and regulations to keep the more exuberant riders in check. None of us want to see rider order shuffled about after a race is over,but by the same token,none of us want to see death or injury. There is always going to be a bit of both.
