I've never been able to sharpen a knife well with a steel...

There may be a good reason for that.

'A so-called sharpening steel—also called a honing rod—which is the metal rod sold with most knife sets, doesn't really sharpen a knife, but rather hones the edge of a slightly dulled blade. Sweeping the blade along the steel realigns the edge so you don't have to sharpen as frequently.'

I was taught how at college, but even there I couldn't!! Now (as a 1.5-armed-kack-handed bird) I have a little thingy from amazon that I run them through!! Haven't attempted to use a steel for over 20 years!! LOL

I've been through the faff of using a whetstone and all that malarkey and bought a Japanese thing with ceramic wheels in which works a treat. I just give 'em a brisk go over with the steel every few uses. The purists will scoff but tbh they talk more about knives than cooking.

Drove 30 miles to take the Helibars off the GS.

I’d had to reroute the cables when I put them on but when I took the bars off just left them ‘wrong’ as I assumed it would just be taken to a breakers.

Got home and Direct Line rang to say an engineer was going to inspect it.

F**k. Another 30 mile trip to reroute the cables back to factory.

Went to a bar at 7. Spent the evening talking French and English and having a laugh. Just home - when did going out for an evening get so tiring??? I must be out of practice - I only had on drink!! LOL

Moved house today to an awesome little one bed chalet place (will be two bed eventually but they are still working on it) in a village not too far up from the valley and I'm here to cat sit for a week.

Awesome main area, fab kitchen, comfy sofa - about four times the size of my whole apartment!! LOL

And up to the top floor a really cute double room with a terrace and a fab view!

Cat's a bit anti social, but hey ho!! LOL

Then went to walk to the local shop - one of the couple from the house had told me it was 10 - 15 mins on a "path" and google said 20 (so for me at least 25-30) on the road. TBF, I didn't believe the 15 mins, I don't walk very fast!!

So I set out, decided to take a path that I found - well damn that was steep!!! And didn't look very safe for me to walk on!! LOL But, despite the FUF tag I did make it down to the road - then a friend pulled up and offered me a lift the rest of the way!! Woohoo!! And also a lift back!!

Then I crashed out on the sofa for a couple of hours!! LOL

Kinda pretty walk, but it's far far too steep!! LOL

No, it's the original 750. The rearsets get in the way of the kickstart so I left it off, but the shaft is still there. I did a build thread on TRC but it's long gone now

Ah now i may have read that. You were bracing the frame also? I still have a soft spot for them but they were so bloody heavy. I chopped my 550 for the 650 and even then it never had much poke two up

I was happy when we bought this modest bungalow, small enough to encourage the kids not to hang around too long but plenty big enough for childless plans. We were all set and would never need to move again, I could potter around doing simple DIY tasks like remodeling the back garden that I am about 1/3 of the way through.

I was wrong, I'm now back on right move looking at dozens of houses that aren't suitable so my in-laws can move in with us. I don't begrudge them moving in at all and our place is too small but I've got little enthusiasm to buy a huge house with a spare wing that we'll be rattling around in s few years.

Drove to a town near Annecy to see a doctor about hormone stuff. She basically shrugged her shoulders at me - I'm getting a bit pissed off with some doctors doing that!! At least my GP in resort says when he doesn't know stuff and then goes off to find out!!!

Left there and drove to the nearest bit of Annecy Lake - paddled my feet in the water, nearly got soaked by 'waves' from a far off speedboat!! Then drove back to the cat sitting place

I do miss being up on top of my mountain. But sitting by the lake was quite thereputic



As soon as I sat down the ducks headed over!! Didn't stay long cos I had no food!!

Could only get my toes in the water, well, until the waves from passing speedboats arrived!

A few boats had passed further out and some little waves come to where I was sitting. Didn't really take any notice of the one that caused the little Tsunami!! Was about to video the waves and the 'surf' as they hit the wall then realised I was about to get soaked!! LOL No video!




This was taken from the bench seat I retreated to after the mini Tsunami!! LOL Lucky not to get soaked!! LOL In front of my toes was completely dry and where I was sat! LOL

Terrifying, My daughter was 17 in August. I've reminded people I take more funerals than weddings. Should keep the boys in line.

Had my first physio appointment. I now have a 6 week course starting a month tomorrow.
