Remember that Billy is racing nearly every weekend, 4x, BMX & DH

Sorry, I don't think I said what I actually meant.
What I meant was.... To put in context just how well the boys did on their first go at reaching at this level

Well that would be nice. We've just been sent a video from 3 years ago in the MIJ series at FoD.
I don't know how many times my lad has ridden this track, but it's a lot, like lots and lots. If they use the same course he'll be very excited indeed

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
yeah same thing was on their joining entry info, but in all honesty wasn't very clear at all
In relation to this i've just paid for a British Cycling silver membership for him so if and when he does get to score points, they'll go onto his BC account and count for getting higher licence levels should he ever wish to move through the ranks.
I take it then you can get from the Lodge up through the back into the trails ?

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
Yeah, you can easily get to all the trails from WL, you can also get to some off piste across the road down under the Google, in the trailforks screenshot there's one little green line but there's quite a few trails in there just follow every one else
Heading right on the map From the lodge there's a couple of DH tracks, Y2K, elephant Man and a little bit further back towards the centre is the steep red decent that I took you down and James crashed on.
They're cracking tracks and not as battered as the others at sheepskull end.

Lol, MiniTaff crashed there a couple of weeks ago as well
It's just one of those places where all you can do is ease of the brakes and let it roll

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
Got some new tyres arriving today hopefully. Maxxis Shorty, DH and super tacky... for £45 we may as well give him the most grip humanly possible. Still debating whether we'll fit them both front and rear or just do the front. He's got a Minion DHF on the rear currently which is only 1 ride old, so potentially leave that on and just give him the extra grip on the front.

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
That's not bad, but not perfect. He's ridden both but not loads... but at least we're not going in completely blind.
The other part is that it's also terrain he rides well, along with the fact a DH bike won't really matter there. So all in all, i think we're both pretty happy.
What he needs this weekend is a decent clean run, which he's not really had in the DH stuff yet... If he can get a clean run i think he'll finish higher up and be happier in that context. Of course we're still likely to find fast guys who potentially kick his arse... but it'd be nice for him to come away from this one feeling a bit more excited.
Once again i'll be taking the spare bike for race day, although now i know it only takes 5 minutes to re-spring the shock, i'll leave it with my setup until it's needed.
I was actually thinking about entering myself, but then i worked out that if we run it in Cats, then while one of us is racing, the other is riding up. We won't be able to ride together etc. There's no issue from that in a riding context, but there could be in a mechanical, preparation and also an organisational context.. So makes sense that i don't ride the Sunday, but i'll certainly be out in practice on Sat.

experimenting with the boys bike at the moment before the weekend,

we're also testing various bar widths today and lever positions to see where we are. Of course we have a baseline setup from other rides to go back to if we need to, but just trying to get him happier, happier = faster... faster = higher placing.

At least he will heal quickly ...
what doesn't kill you etc ...
( I have broken so many bones and done so much damage to my structure - it's fine until you hit 60 )
