Triumph Speed Twin

Post by Nidge »

I picked this up on Thursday from Premier Bikes, I’ve only done 120 miles so far but first impressions are excellent

The torque produced by the 1200 engine is extraordinary- not just the headline figure of 82 ft-lbs but the way it delivers it from 2,500 rpm in all the way through the rev range, and although I’m keeping it below 4,000 for the first couple of hundred miles, big throttle openings produce big grins as I quickly shift up- braap braap braap it’s like a big moto crosser

Image

The riding position is nigh on perfect for me, the handling neutral and confidence inspiring on the OE Pirelli Rosso Corsa III . There are lots of lovely touches: Brembo brakes, classy bar end mirrors and lovely clocks. All in all it feels like a quality package with none of the chintzy parts found on some of the other modern Triumphs ( fake Amals are a real bugbear of mine).

It came with the optional V&H pipes, I’ve added a tail tidy from Tec (still awaiting the back blacked 8”x6” plate) and removed the fork leg reflectors but I don’t think there’s anything else it needs. Very very happy with this purchase

Definitely a bike to make old bikers smile and say "that looks a proper bike".

Enjoy.

Lovely looking bike, and from the reviews I’ve seen no one has a bad word to say about them.
Lucky man😀.

Put another 130 miles on it over the weekend with a ride that took in Fish Hill near Broadway. What a stretch of road that is-with the closest to alpine bends I've ever seen in the UK, the sunny weather brought lots of people out to play but it was still possible to get a couple of good, uninterrupted runs, and although I'm never going to trouble the fast boys, the Speed Twin inspires confidence that make it a rapid bend swinger even in my old hands.

Had a nice chat with a traffic cop (usually a bike cop but was confined to a 5 series on the day) who spent about an hour talking bikes and banter with us, telling us they had to be seen to police the road but not particularly interested in nicking anyone not blatantly taking the piss- good policing and good PR IMO

Absolutely loving this bike - if you get a chance to demo one take it!

Glad you're enjoying the bike.

Fish Hill is good fun, it's the first bit of public road where I got my knee down but it's a bit too far to go nowadays. Hartside is better anyway ;)

Only dome Fish hill once, and it was a bit of a struggle, when I got home I found out why. I only had 5psi in the front tyre.. :D

Ain't that the truth!

Not got it yet but told it will be done by 14:00 tomorrow, so that's when I'll be there to collect, with my wet weather stuff in my backpack, as sods law (and the BBC) says we are gonna get rained on :o
