MT-07

Post by Couchy »

With only the cbr400 in the garage there was space for a road bike, Japanese fun light likes wheelies and can manage a trackday or two. No point looking for something anywhere other than my head as I've owned most. Fading memory said an MT 07 fits the bill. There was an update to them in 2019 so a 2019 it was. Found this one locally, full sytem, screen, mirrors, levers, tail tidy and a new set of supercorsas and 4000 miles. Deal was done and collected at the weekend.

I remember my old one being great for wheelies but this one is on a par with my old KTM 525, 1st gear unuseable, 2nd gear wheel lifts from 4k revs with no effort and 3rd gear with a bit of effort. I've had very few bikes that wheelie like this tbh. This is a good sign. Handling it feels stiffer than my old one and bars are closer. I don't like supercorsa SP at all and never have so they will go, 40 miles only if anyone want to make an offer

So far so good, it might be a keeper

you were damn handy on it that time in Pembrey. Was very like seeing Tricky out on some of his bikes, very easy and effortless.

A new k-tech shock appeared on ebay earlier at 60% of new price. It's on its way :) Unsure about the forks as I recall I didn't do anything to the old one and they were fine on track.

The exhaust is too loud so it's being sent to the exhaust man next door for a link pipe and a proper can along the side. It won't look as good but will have a chance at making it onto a UK trackday. I need to see if it has been remapped as it's far livelier than I remembered the old one being but that could just be the exhaust.

Also got a set of Bridgestone S22 here which are going on:)

I'm 100% sure he wined like a milkfloat about the front end on the last one.

Ah, saw the tyres ad and was just about to ping you to see what you've bought, but don't have to now

Love it- as you say, really fun bikes and I think it's actually quite a looker too in those colours- the 7s are so much better looking than the MT09s IMO, not hard I know!

Akrapovic cans with the baffles still in place are usually not much louder than stock.

It was 7 years ago but don’t think so, this isn’t a track bike so wouldn’t matter if it was

Got my suspicions it’s been modified or is a non genuine one, it’s getting changed anyway

A friend out here has one of those (not the same colours!). She loves it - when we get to go riding next year, I am hoping to get a go - I'm sure she won't mind a swap for some time on an old Monster!!

Be very wary.

That way lies madness (or at the very least dissatisfaction with your own bike once you get back on it)

I'm keen to try my mate's Mrs Tracer 7, not had a chance yet. But his comment that it's lacking top end and my brother saying the MT and XSR 7's he rode were good but run out of puff make me think I'll def be looking at the 9 over the 7. Sure the 7 is plenty for the road but with the 690 I've had plenty for the road for a while. I want a bit of excess.

Then sir, what you need is either an MT-10 or SD1290 , both of which have quite a big bit of excess, on the road at least :D

I said a bit not shovel loads :D

Although I do sometimes still consider the GSXS1000 but then that's 'only' 150 bhp
