Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
This weekend brings the first of the races then.
Friday afternoon we'll be driving from Berks up to Oswestry. Staying in a hotel there for the weekend and then off to Caersws on Sat morning.
The odds are this will be a very close representation of the course he'll be running. All day practice on Saturday and then race day on Sunday.
Plan is to take 2 bikes, gazebo, chairs, table, food, drink etc.... Hopefully the weather will play ball, but it's Sept in Wales, so it may not
Can't wait to see how this one goes.

It's definitely a sign of age but 5 years ago I'd have really fancied that course and now I'm looking at it and just thinking "good luck James!" and happy to wait for news!

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
Thanks matey.... Of all the DH tracks i've seen, this one i could manage, but the entry fee is the best part of £100 so i've not. By the time we add in hotel, fuel etc we must be in the £350-400. The net result would be me finishing last or very close to last, so i didn't see a lot of value in that for myself.
I don't expect the course to trouble him techincally, it's way within his skillset, but of course, things can happen and probably will do so at some stage.
Assuming we've got 4G over the course of it, i'll lob up some updates etc.

Had a week near Oswestry, in the delightfully named Pant, at this time of year. Went prepared for the worst and the weather was scorchio. Had to go into Oswestry to buy shorts and T-shirts!
Good luck with the racing.

Lol that escalated!
Taff will know one or two of the guys who are entered this weekend including Billy Pugh who dominated the little fodders that Taffs lad used to race it. There's another couple of highly ranked riders racing too in UK rankings.
Will be great to see how he stacks up.

Race weekend begins. After a night of laughs and banter in the Premier Inn, this morning brings us sunshine in Oswestry. The area is actually lovely, hilly, foresty, I'm amazed it's not more popular.

Today is breakfast followed by a day of uplifted practice. Learning the course is order of the day, along of course with have fun which as always is the primary goal.
Unless something breaks, he'll be on the Sworks. But the G170 as you can see is here as emergency spare.

If you had more time I'd recommend a trip up to the old racecourse above Oswestry. It's v pleasant up there. (Nearly bought a house v close to it). Oswestry is a pretty good base for a few days as there's stuff to see like the aqueduct if you like that sort of thing and there must be plenty of riding to do in the area.

Crazy steep, proper rooty and sketchy!!!! The boys are on practice run 3 currently. Then taking a rest.
I'm very very glad I'm not riding it from the bits I've seen.

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
Run 7 and his riding mate Olly came down and crashed on the steep techie section, about the 12th person we'd seen crash on that bit.
3s later my lad stacks it about 4' earlier than Olly.
Sadly for us it was a bigger one and he ended up in an ambulance for 45 mins. Thoughts were of possible breaks as he took a while to get much in the way of moving
Happily it's just cuts and bruises and assuming he can walk tomorrow he's got the all clear to ride.

Take it slow, he can always race another time.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"

That’s a real shame, fingers crossed he’s good to go tomorrow.

Mmmm he's a bit wonky and delicate but I'll be amazed if he's not out tomorrow.

Well he's up, dressed, we've vacated the room and we're about to head to track. Race time!
