NBT: New scoot thread!
Someone was talking about good mile munchers/commuters the other day and I’d put forward a Tmax , as having had a few of them I know they are good at both. It made me think that with my impending crippledom getting closer by the day, one might be a good idea for me?
By chance, a quick browse of eBay found exactly what I wanted, a mk2 ulez compliant Tmax. It was cheap and I was sure I’d seen it for sale elsewhere before? The pics confirmed it was far from concourse and the dealer confirmed it had few marks and scuffs but assured me it rode like a champ. Deal struck and it’d be delivered in a week or so’s time! After dropping the NCX on me later that day, when my knee gave way, I knew I’d made the right decision and 2 weeks later it arrived.
What a dog! Panels zip tied together as plastic lugs were broken. Spongy brakes and uneven wear on the discs as the brakes clearly aren't pulling evenly. It had clearly sat about for a while. When I rode it, it basically revived its tits off as the slightest touch of the throttle. Too lighter weights in the variator causes this. It’s a popular mod for scoots, but it’s not for me. Also the supplying dealer said they’d fitted a new belt but not an OEM one as none available in UK. Turns out to be true as I had to wait over a week for Fowler’s to get me one and standard variator weights and sliders!
Anyway, I’ll get it back to standard and it should do what I want it to okay. Certainly more comfortable and easier to get on and off than the NCX and I love riding these big ol' Scoots. I'll ditch the sticky out mirrors for bar ends, put a lower "sports" screen on to get rid of the turbulence form the standard one, oh and get the brakes functioning properly.
Here it is, resplendent in its Invacar Deep Blue!

If it works, it works! Hope your riding mojo stays strong on this and panels don't flap too much, brakes are easy to sort and it rides well.

Re: NBT: New scoot thread!
Increasing hip problems have led me down a somewhat similar road recently in the form of a 250 Xmax as I haven't ben able to swing a leg over a conventional bike since last year. As it happens I've only managed one ride on the little scoot but enjoyed it once I forced my left hand to stop pulling te clutch in. It's amazing how I can feather the back brake on a pushbike with no bother but having an engine seems to tell my brain something else.
Now scheduled for a hip replacement (via a robotic arm!) mid-September so hopefully I'll be exploring the delights of seamless auto transmission by the time winter comes around. I could even envisage a short French tour next year but let's see what happens.

I struggle with negotiating tight traffic with non bar mounted mirrors. Used to "waggling" my way past.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 10:43 am I like the mirrors, you could pretend you were riding a giant ant.
