Absolutely. They drink fuel,smoke like a chimney,handle rubbish and blow up with monotonous regularity.

But don't forget the rules, this is mostly a running ornament. You lot seriously get your rocks off looking at a GS Beemer?

I loved that bike. (Apart from the brakes in the rain.)

Not just the brakes in the rain, it would dissolve and go red in a fine mizzle!

Also the brakes were only marginal in the dry and the rear shocks were awful all the time on mine l, achingly pretty exhaust though

I think Bubble had one of those. When she bought it they'd stopped doing that colour so she got them to paint a brand new bike in the previous years colour. That's dedication to keeping yourself colour coordinated.

Hmm, that's a real tough one - lots of older bikes I would miss having to look at or fiddle with and for the occasional ride, and a few current ones, but if it really had to be one bike, and one bike only, then it would be an MT10-SP I think at the moment whilst I've still got all my senses and most of my faculties, at least

It would be a fireblade of some kind. I've had two and nothing comes close to being as good based on the bikes I've had. That said I took mine off the road as it was too extreme to really enjoy anywhere else than the track. I don't see how anyone could choose a single bike, it's like only being allowed to have one guitar!

Gun to head, something like the ducati hypermotard would probably cover most bases, look good and be interesting enough to last, probably...

Tastes change as well, if you'd have asked me this question at 20yrs old then it would be a KR1-S and I'd have sworn on pain of death that I'd keep it forever, but at nearly fifty I'd be regretting that choice if I had to ride it regularly.

If the challenge was to keep one and I had to use it for daily transport, or use it as my only means of getting around like in the olden days then it would probably be a scooter. The idea of keeping an old bike sounds great, but they need a lot more attention than anything modern.
