Only to find the ards have 'engineered out the costs'. ie saved on production costs by using cheaper materials/reducing functionality - but kept the same retail price.
Someone once asked 'Is there nothing that cannot be made cheaper and with less care?' It seems not.

Flip flops. Shoes of Beelzebub.
Handy when sitting around the pool, but fuck me they hurt my plates after a few days. Been agony for days now and apparently there's a proper name for it: plantar fasciitis.
I'm walking like a fucking cripple at the mo.

I haven't worn them since being a child in the 70s. Used to take the tops of my toes off scraping them on the floor riding my push bike.

Trouble is, wearing a pair a sensible Clarkes brogues with a pair of budgie smugglers isn't really a look I go for.
I get this pain when walking barefoot as well. Last summer was bad as the weather was great and I just wore shorts around the patio.
To add insult to injury, walking barefoot or in flip flops causes my heel to crack in exactly the same place, causing it to bleed and taking weeks to heal. No matter what creams, gels or ointments (including the one my GP prescribed when I mentioned it to him), the right heel splits open.
My ol' trotters give me all sorts of grief.

Fallen arches (probably). They make pool sliders with arch support. Flip-flops are awful and a safety hazard. Some Topsiders might be worth a look. Pricey but they were aimed at sailing so should be better for moving around safely and comfortably.gremlin wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 8:41 am Trouble is, wearing a pair a sensible Clarkes brogues with a pair of budgie smugglers isn't really a look I go for.

The answer in one URL below. Superb arch support and all day comfortable.

Probably get you off jury service too.
PS I probably should have said Sperry Topsiders.

Lose the budgie smugglers and just wear the shoes. Or add a collar and cuffs and try to pass yourself off as a Chippendale.

It's to be a dry and sunny week, yet everywhere is blanketed in a thick fog making my early morning bike rides a no-no.

I think I'd be more content if they told me it would rain all week.

Went to a family party at the weekend. My daughter now has covid and i'm displaying symptoms. Two other people from the party have covid as well, both anti-vaxxers, who have been in and out of hospital for various (unrelated) tests. One of which is my sister and the other is her boyfriend. Thanks Sis!

That you can't use gmail as a proper imap email client. My webmail provider has banned POP3 meaning I have to use their crappy webmail interface on the Chromebook

Picking up yet more windfall apples in the garden has left me wondering:
How on earth did "windfall", something that we don't want, become a metaphor for something good, something that we want?

I always assumed it was some ancient law. Peasants can pick up apples which fall to the ground, but they're not allowed to take them from the tree? Something like that anyway....hence how it now refers to an unexpected bonus.
