Re: What have you done to your bicycle today ?
This must be failed pedals week. Here is mine yesterday - happened 1/3rd into a ride at Dunkeld. Pedal straight off the spindle (failed bearings). It didnt even give any warning it was going to happen - as its a common problem on eggbeaters - and i would have fixed beforehand. https://i.ibb.co/VMFTY...

Re: In your working life
When i was a student, in the summer i worked in a hotel in the centre of Edinburgh. The Caledonian Hotel in the West End. I was a Porter (all my mates were room service which was much better for tips). So id restock the chambermaids cupboaards and help them if not busy. Take Ironing boards and irons...

Re: Stones in horse's hooves
You use a hoof pick to get the mud, stones out of the horses hoof, and in about the V shaped part called 'the frog' (which is like a shock absorber and grip - but also helps pump blood back up the leg) Mud - the really claggy stuff - which stick to the underside of the hoof and can collect stones. W...

Re: Wiggle / CR news
 I bought a road bike mounted pump for £1.49  As to the small sizes, thats great for me, as im a size small. Got 2 winter long sleeve cycling jerseys for £8 each (reduced from £45). If they dont fit - which they should - for that price not worth the hassle to return. They'll fit so...

Re: Wiggle / CR news
Mrs SSS and I have been grabbing a few bargains.
Sorry to see CRC go and been using them for decades.
When CRC posted the 'Final Send' i thought it was going to wrap up very shortly after that.

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
I find stuff just doesnt last anytime now. Whether theyre using inferior materials, poorer weatherproofing/shielding etc. Im finding im replacing my BB about every 6 months on the training bike, and now when i was regreasing the wheel bearings last night, the freehub isnt so clever either, and it wa...

No worries, i know you were obviously too far away, but its the first time ive seen a venue advertise like that. May have been useful to walk into other venues - 'hey see what Glencoe are doing?? Oh and by the way thats what my boy does...' kinda chat (if not already committed) Maybe you know someon...

Its a pity you dont stay local to Glencoe. Glencoe are looking to sponsor two local riders on their grass roots development program.

Nothing like that at any venues down your way?

Re: 2024 Riding and Pictures.
Out at Aberfoyle (Gravelfoyle) testing the upgraded Vitus Substance Gravel Bike (a CRC cheapie). It came with drop bars and mechanical brakes. Ive never liked drop bars and the mechanical brakes were scary!! So into the spares bin. flat bars and hydro brakes. Mrs SSS's eMTB in the background - on th...

{snip........} Don't get me wrong here, this is the calm before the storm and in a few months he'll be back as the smaller fish in the bigger pond with the super fast lads. But we can only beat what's out there with us on a given day, and that's of course what he did. Well done!! Thats all you can ...

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
To be fair, i was getting mixed up with British Downhill rounds and SDA (Scottish Downhill Association), where they both share rounds 2 and 4. Round 5 Innerleithen is SDA only. Do you get points/kudos credit for SDA events? As to Glencoe - if its possibly a weaker field, because of the Euro Champs, ...

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
Fully understand the rationale. Everyone is a critic, especially if theyre not on the 'pointy' end of things. When things like that happen i always go and re-read the 'Man in the Arena' speech by Roosevelt. “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or ...

Re: The journey from small guy to teenager...
If your up in Scotland, might pop up to visit you and see the lad in action. I remember that you were thinking about Glencoe and doing that last year. I see that you may do Glencoe a week before France. Wont that be a bit hectic? Looking at the DH dates, swap Rd 4 Glencoe to Rd 5 Innerleithen? Less ...

Re: Pension stuff, how's it all looking ? HAve you prepared ?
I dont have any pensions, not one. Dont believe in them. Seen many getting stuffed over with pension providers and annuities. Mrs SSSs dad was one of the Equitable Life pension holders when it went bust. He received nothing - retirement plans in tatters after many years paying in. Last i heard they ...
