Thank you all for the advice. I'm feeling less pissy about it than I was earlier. I'm looking at the plus points, my biggest fear was the speed check, the place we learned had a smaller pad so getting up to speed was an issue, no issues at the test centre.

must have done 25 u turns yesterday, managed about 20 to 23 of them fine, not pretty, but passable. Today, something dropped, either rolled off the throttle too much or dipped the clutch too much. Bloody U-Turn, my absolute weak point, don't know why, well I do, dropped revs, lost momentum, foot down

Everything else I have no issues with, blatted through the Hazard and Emergency stop at over 50km which is where I thought I might slip up, but no, sodding U-Turn

Found another school locally who do 3 hour 125 confidence lessons. May do that in between now and the DAS, just to keep my hand in and get used to the gears and riding in general as the 125 purchase is out the window. Just too husky I think.

Oh - I'd also say that whatever "style" of bike you buy first doesn't have to have any bearing on what style of bike you eventually want to have permanently. So, unless you are absolutely 110% sure that you're going to be doing mainly off-road / trail type riding, you don't need to buy big clumpy ...

From the description of the errors above (eg gears up/down, clutch control) I'd suggest you need to get some miles in, outside of the training environment, to make some of it second nature and not occupying brain bandwidth. As long as you have the road sense.
