Honda mini bikes.

Post by Dodgy69 »

Been having a gander this morning, see in real life type thing. One big winner for me. Bikes were all 125cc , Dax, grom and monkey. Grom and monkey both 5 speed manual with clutch, Dax is a no clutch semi.

Weighing in around the 100 kg mark making them all so light to push about, insane. Grom looked a bit plasticy but modern looking. Dax is out of contention and the monkey is my favourite.

Looks very well put together, solid, less plastic, very comfy, helmet lock, atm top of the pops. 😁👍🏻

I nearly bought a Z125 Monkey last year. Nice little things. I bet they're slow but that's to be expected. I think Couchy had one for a bit.

I don't get them in the slightest... but if i did..yeah the Monkey would be way above the others and the Grom would hit 2nd place. I'd argue though in some ways the Grom would be 'cooler' if that mattered. With the Monkey having a bit of nostalgia thrown in there

I'd have a Grom for puttering about town - but apparantly they're an absolute thief magnet.

When we were kids we had one of the Honda P50s (if that was the designation), no idea how many miles we, 3 active brothers, did on it riding it around in the woods, jumping it, thrashing it but it never broke.

Yep, you wouldn't want it out of sight for long, some big bruiser would just pick it up and chuck it in the back on his estate. 4x4 or any other similar large vehicle.

I have ridden both and prefer the Grom as it has a little more oomph and I preferred the riding position. The Monkey was like riding motorised bar stool (so I took it to the pub for a coffee). Both very cool and both impractical for town riding as Rockburner said, they are thief magnets.

It's a whooosh for me. I'm a well puzzled bystander. :wtf:

Apart from a kid's field bike, when would you use one?

Think of them as a non-ghey scooter.

I had no idea the Dax existed. If I was going to get one, I'd probably go for that. It looks pretty authentic 70s.

Well, arrival is imminent and deal been done. 😁 Reasoning is, I have 3 bikes and the Benelli has been standing on the toes of the MT and it ain't fair. MT is a keeper. GS is a keeper, so with a heavy heart, the mighty Benelli is giving way. I like a bike for different jobs and the little monkey will just be for titting around on local lanes. Popping to the mils, pub, shops etc. 👍🏻

The MT hasn't moved in months so swapping the Benelli for the Monkey should give the MT it's life back, possibly maybe. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The new Grom I had a few years ago was a practical run about that I enjoyed until I got tired of being trapped behind cars I couldn't overtake. I also had a Chinese Dax clone but that was more for the challenge of sorting it out. It always felt stressed when ridden even after correcting the final drive gearing. The Honda 125 engine is much more lively and yet still sophisticated.

It doesn't stand on the toes of anything else in the garage so there's no reason why it won't be a keeper. 🤔

It'll need to stand on the shoulders of something. :P
