Re: Where are they now? Level 3 armour
Just because EN 17092 has not yet been harmonised, it is a bit of a cop out not to be certifying to it. It's a cop out, but it doesn't give a presumption of conformity, and no one is UKAS accredited for it yet. Not for a few more months, but there are accredited foreign NBs. Its not like the NBs ne...

Re: Where are they now? Level 3 armour
Just because EN 17092 has not yet been harmonised, it is a bit of a cop out not to be certifying to it. No one in their right mind would buy impact protection without certification, although they are not harmonised nor are inserted protectors actually required to be certified. But everyone does it t...

Potential to bring back 13595 as a British standard instead and reintroduce level 3 performance is in the works.

Re: Which motorcycling Jeans?
I totally agree. But what can anyone do about it? Sadly, nothing. it is ultimately down to the company how they want to certify and market their products. The best way to combat it is just get educated about what to look out for when buying and learning about what all of the European standards mean...

Re: Which motorcycling Jeans?
Could you have explained why Dainese leathers commonly have just an AA-rating? The stretch panels aren’t lined with Kevlar, and Dainese uses lots of stretch material. For instance, check out this sexy-looking Tuono jacket (rated AA and £1,350  ). With unlined stretch material in the middle o...

Re: Which motorcycling Jeans?
Seems Furygan have a hoodie rated to AAA https://www.motolegends.com/reviews/Furygan-Brad-hoodie-review Which is better than almost all their other kit as far as I can see. Most of their Textile especially is rated to the French standards rather than EU I noticed but I think is generally rated as A...

Re: Where are they now? Level 3 armour
Would these be Italian brands? :silent: I have worked in several other industries and found that higher standards catalyse innovation . In every company I worked, we accepted more stringent standards and stepped up to create better products. More stringent standards would benefit UK manufacturers. ...

Re: Where are they now? Level 3 armour
When Dr Woods was developing the Cambridge standard for high-performance, was there also a so-called “level 3” for body armour? Brian Brian Sansom’s BKS used to talk about this level of armour as an upgrade from level 2 (while being careful to avoid claiming it was an official standard). Similarly,...

If they pass at A they pass, nothing can be done about it. Just backs up the point to pay more and go for AAAMrLongbeard wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 9:18 pm

Re: Armoured Cargo Trousers
I wonder how a £30 pair of workman trousers from Screwfix compare to £160 pair of motorcycle specific trous? Obviously there the the difference in armour, but there's ways around that. Yeah,I've pondered that myself. Because motorcycling is perceived as a hobby/leisure pursuit, folk are mostly happy...

The difference would become clear when you were skidding down the road in the workman trousersKungFooBob wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 8:34 pm I wonder how a £30 pair of workman trousers from Screwfix compare to £160 pair of motorcycle specific trous?

Re: Where are they now? Level 3 armour
Sorry - I wasn't clear - would you know how riders can input in any way? Or, are only manufacturers able to input? (I've no association with BKS; I merely used their armour as an example.) Also, many thanks for being a brilliant help  Riders directly - there would be no easy way to suggest...

Re: Where are they now? Level 3 armour
Thanks Mascagman - very useful info  The impact protector standard is currently being revised Would you know how stakeholders can contribute to this revision? Is there a way that riders (or their representatives like the BMF?) can input? Presumably, the revision process must include some f...

Re: Where are they now? Level 3 armour
Thanks, I hadn’t known there exists different levels (pass, High Performance, Ultra High Performance and Extreme Performance). As a regular consumer – not in the industry – how can I find out the level of my armour? Or is everything on the market only tested at 50 joules? The performance level is h...

Oh okay, i see what you mean. > CE standards allow a pass at 50 joules. > High Performance is awarded at 75 joules > Ultra High Performance at 85 joules > Extreme Performance at 90 joules I guess it's just their unofficial way of selling their protectors. Considering how poor some products are at 50...

Re: Which motorcycling Jeans?
 Perhaps scarier than the 'protective hoodie', there are Dainese race leathers – including the Mugello R D-Air suit at £3400 – with only an AA rating! (Alpinestars and Spidi got all their one-piece suits to AAA, so why can't Dainese step up?) Mental. It definitely pays off to understand ...

No, i mean 6 to obtain a certificate. PH, Azo, PAH, Nickel, PCP and Chromium IV. Full REACH testing would be an optional extra. If they don't need it to obtain a certificate, they won't do it. They have to comply with REACh, regardless if it's a piece of PPE, a pair of shoes or a natty scarf, OK no...
