40 mph = £400
200 mph = £2,000

Just need to accelerate to desired speed and stop as quickly or slowly as you like.

I reckon I'd opt for 120. Done that speed thousands of times ...

Re: The Pyrenees/Northern Spain

Have done Portsmouth - Caen a few times on the faster ferries and, if you wanted to take your time a bit on the way down to Hendaye there are some great roads down to Niort and from there you can avoid Bordeaux if you plan accordingly. It all depends on how fast you want to get to Hendaye I guess ...

Re: The Pyrenees/Northern Spain

Never been in the pyrennees before, will do in september and plan to include La forêt de la Massane in the trip.

Maybe a bit late, but did you think about ferry Portsmouth-Caen overnight? Much faster than sailing to Santander (but Caen-Hendaye via Autoroute seems ugly, and stressing near Bordeaux ...

I don't have too much to compare, only a qwest, a C3 and a C4. Schuberths interiors resisted better than the Shoei.

Re: Last Hurrah Bike?

I'm not certain about UK residents in Spain, but spaniards can change ownership of a vehicle in a morning. A visit to registro de la propiedad (pay ITP tax) and then another to DGT (50€). Once contract is signed you have 30 days for thoose steps.
