The missus decided a while ago that she wanted a wood burner in the house for the odd cold evening.
Looked into it and nowhere to route the chimney.
Then a brainwave. Often after BBQs we chuck more wood on and sit round the fire.
So, maybe enclose the patio area and have an outside room with bug open fire?

Need to add 2 'walls'. The one by the sofas needs to be manual as can't hang a roller from the pergola.

Rather than order expensive materials then hack and chop it to fit, we decided to buy a 4m x 3m nylon tarp for 5 Euros and attack that.

So spent last 2 days experimenting best/,strongest way to fit it.
The tarp takes lots of wind to had to strengthen and attach in many places.
Once we'd found a way to hang and position/holding the pole across. Spent ages finding best way.
We finally found a good way that'll be quick and convenient.

So now to leave it up a few days and see how it copes with the winds

The stuff we buy will look amazing, but we'll use all this knowledge as a base.

It's not as pretty/tidy on the other side, but we won't see it

The 'wall' by the pool will be a drop down jobby with an electric motor .
But again, we'll buy a cheap tarp to experiment on.

If an indoor fire is still desired look at bioethanol fires, a real flame with no chimney required.
I'm not a great fan of them but we did need a second heat source in case the boiler goes kaput.

Get a few pals round and get the big flames going silly. We've got loads of wood

Double wins so far. The winds were howling overnight and nothing tore or split
But it was so strong, the billowing, 'sail' pushed the sofa a fair bit
Need to think about making the sides tighter once we spend the good money.
Good to learn now though.

And normally when it's this windy, we don't sit outside. But I'm happily typing this in the corner of the L-shaped sofa with no wind

Might be best to just think about moving somewhere warmer and less windy?

I took poorly just after this so went no further.
But cracked on last 2 days. Gonna have a fire tonight and if all well, we'll get the lad round to talk and quote
