Right, currently putting on new grips

How on gods green earth do I get the throttle grip on

Hairspray, then slide it on.

Squirt loads of WD40 on the inside, slide it on, let it dry, the grip will stay on, but grip glue works better.

Same, but washing up liquid works for me.

If it really doesn't want to go on you might have to rub some of those knobbly bits off.

I used the WD40 method for years but the hairspray method is less messy, works better and goes tacky once dried.


You don’t want to really have to fart about with the raised bits as they are there to help keep the grip in place. Ideally you’d want to use some Lockwire but not essential.

Another method I’ve used in the past is by using an airline, that works well. Great for removing grips that you might want to reuse.

Hairspray is my fav method.

I suspect he's successfully done it using the hairspray method....then made a slight hash of replying to Wull's post ^^^^. All will become clear I'm sure.

In VERY VERY VERY small amounts!!

Do NOT slather the bar in washing up liquid, it will NEVER dry.

I caught my father doing the above on the JAPton 30 years ago and gave him a bollocking for it... The grip is STILL slipping on the bar now!

Reminds me,some years ago a neighbour was doing some gloss painting and he took a break. Meanwhile his toddler son grabbed the can and brush and redecorated another neighbour's car.

I got a good look at a CBR650R on Le Shuttle and there were loads of them in Fronch.

They're much more premium looking than I expected. Defo look better built than MT07s or 650 Ninjas.

I noticed that the grips on my 1200GS were looking a bit thin (it's just about to rock over 20k), I think I might put some grip puppies over them rather than replace.
