Does this look like too large a gap to you? And secondly, I think there's room for improvement here!

ISTR the gap being less on a 900R,but maybe it was just more equidistant. I can't see that gap being a problem though.

It does look a bit big, but they're not going to come out

Personally I think it's just Indian build quality. The exhausts were roughly the same, so I knew they had seated properly.
Pretty sure the last top end I rebuilt had a better tolerance when built.....but it's been a while!

I always try to get the gaps on each side the same although probably no real reason - it just looks nicer.....

You could take the spring out and seat it all with hand tension. You'd know how it looks when it's all together then.

Remember what I said about Indian build quality!

Don't hog the exhaust out you will almost certainly make it worse unless you really know what you are doing. Do lots of reading, smokey yunick and Graham bell, before touching anything

Thanks for your input, I've wielded a die grinder to good effect in the past!
Not my bike and the owner doesn't want to pay for anything he doesn't have too!
