Am going out later so thought I'd check the Suzuki will start. Struggled but couldn't quite tell as had headphones on.
So turned it on again and nothing.

Then I looked at main fuse. It's melted. Even melted a little hole in plastic casing

It's strange how all was OK 5 seconds earlier.

Now can I just clean it all up and put a new one in?

Or best to take it to a dealer to get properly checked out?

Yup. Worried that I'll be stranded somewhere.
Have also asked on the GSXR forum to see if it's a known problem.

I'd be looking for a big and broken cable, probably to the starter motor and burned.

Also. After it was dead, I hooked it up to the battery charger.
Maybe this did the big damage after the fuse blew?

Is it possible you fitted the charger the wrong way round? That's very much like a main fuse blown by fitted red to black

No. It's got a tail bit.

That kind of damage is the universe's way of telling you to find out the root cause. Is that the main fuse? As Mussels says, I'd be checking out the big current devices like starter motor and alternator. Has the regulator/rectifier gone south?

I'd want to know precisely what caused that amount of damage. Definitely not a case of sticking in a new fuse and heading off somewhere hoping for the best.

I had something similar once. There was obvious corrosion, dirt and nastiness in and around where the main fuse had plugged in - possibly water ingress over years. Looked like it overheated before it blew the fuse.

So anyway I replacd the corroded and melted parts and the fuse, never happened again in the subsequent years I owned it.

Hmm. I don't like leccy and looks like it could be a few things. I could easily half fix it and it goes again

Like they said, that's definitely not just a new fuse and ride into the sunset.

As voltage decreases, amps increase. Or something. Anyway, if the battery was very low, it could have caused things to get hot.
Or the starter or even engine might be seized.
Or dirty/ corroded/ loose terminals on a thick wire, probably with at least one end attached to the battery, starter solenoid, engine block, or starter.

Or bring it to the man to figure it out.

It’s a common problem caused by cheap beer and too much sunshine.

I was obviously an electrical fault that started the fire.

Didn't you have to replace the main fuse a year or so ago? Do you know why it went then?
