New old bike day
Another one joins the family, bought for my youngest in anticipation of him passing his test yesterday, unfortunately he failed this time and that’s a story for Survival skills.
This one’s a peach and miles better than my old ‘98, came with a full stainless system, enormous Givi box and Abus shackle lock under the seat.
Can’t wait to take it out after dark to remind me how awful the headlights are.

I used to have a blog page on how to uprate the headlights to twin beam... I almost certainly still have it, if you're interested.Gregor wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 5:09 pm Another one joins the family, bought for my youngest in anticipation of him passing his test yesterday, unfortunately he failed this time and that’s a story for Survival skills.

Sorry to hear about the test fail... if it's in SS I'll read it when I get back from today's outing.

That looks in great condition. I loved my gen 1 Fazer, it was my first big bike after my TZR 250, I bought it new from Rex Judds. Just a really good all rounder

Did part of my police advanced course in 2001 on the Fazer 600 and 1000, as the training school had both of them on loan from Yamaha.
My only memory of both bikes is riding across Snowdonia, on a single track road, in the dark, behind the worst headlamp I think I have ever used.
Appalling.

Yep when I had my first one I used to work 8 till midnight out in the sticks, no white lines or cats eyes …..couldn’t wait for nights with a full moon or a car to follow.Whysub wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 4:42 pm Did part of my police advanced course in 2001 on the Fazer 600 and 1000, as the training school had both of them on loan from Yamaha.

Re: New old bike day
Changed all 4 plug caps as they are known to go a bit flakey with age.
Fair bit of corrosion on the springs inside the old ones and the tiny spacer has disintegrated in 2 of them.

Re: New old bike day
Well the Black Widow has gone and I’ve put the original can that came with it on ready for the youngest to take his test…..again, in a couple weeks time.
Went on without hassle apart from having to carefully grind off the tack welds holding the hanger strap in place on the silencer……wtf
It’s ugly but quiet.

That looks like a decent nick one and yes the standard can is uber quiet..... mine never had one when i bought it
I still really like mine although on the country roads around here its too fecking dangerous to ride at night with the lights as shit as those standard Fazer ones. Even on twilight i failed to spot a muntjac in the road a few weeks back so its day time use only for now and the Multi is daily commuter till the roads get salted .
