And another Levo goes pop........🤬

Post by MingtheMerciless »

Well Mrs M's Levo is having a bad second year, first the forks failed (boo) but got returned with an upgraded damper (yay) and now the Motor has failed (booo and we are hopefully off on holiday in 6 weeks, double boo). Sounds like slipping/grinding belts which means according to various forums the sprag clutch has failed. Hopefully Specialized will turn it around quickly.

Damn. Bit too common with that engine for me, which is a shame as they're lovely bikes

Apparently Motor warranty has been extended from 2 to 4 years. It's a shame as its performance when working is outstanding.

Mine lasted 6 weeks from new till I rejected it. Dealers were good and said they will keep replacing motor but tbh I'd rather the effort was made in getting it right rather than aftersales

FairPlay to Berkshire Cycles in Crowthorne, they turned it around in just over an hour. It’s got a new type motor so hopefully it’ll last.

Guess what, it's gone pop AGAIN!🤬🤬🤬. Charged the battery (it was about 60%, so just a top up) plugged it in to the bike and nothing. Tried the charger again, charger has green LED but none of the 4 LEDS on the battery indicating the charged status of the battery come on. Cannot measure any voltage on the battery main power terminals (though 33V on the data terminals). According to the inter web its likely a dead battery! The things got less than 1000 miles on it in 15 months or so and it's already killed a motor and now a battery. To top it off its a 4hr round trip to the shop to get it fixed.

Last time I buy Specialized.

Aye, can't say I'm shocked sadly.

Which is a bloody shame as they make amazing bikes overall

reasons why i wouldn't consider an e bike.
On a ride two night ago, with the group I go out with, an e bike had its gearing implode ... okay it was down to the derailleur - but it made limping home / botching difficult....

Just posted/ranted on my local messenger MTB/talking bollox group and it turns out 2 other Levo's have died this week. That's 3 out 4 people I know with a Levo. Shocking!

It was SRAM 11 speed - but not sure what level .... on a Haibike ...( which may not be the best example - and it has had a new motor as well ....)

My Haibike has an 11 speed SRAM 😯
Feck knows why because I only use the 5 gears in the middle.

New battery fitted. Cannot fault Berkshire Cycles for service , just specialized for an unreliable product.

The battery was the issue ? Not the motor as such ?

Battery appears to have failed (probably whilst charging as it was fine until I put it on the charger). No detectable voltage on the power terminals. It’s already had a new motor a few months ago.

So more digging on the interwebs and it turns out that that Specialized now allow you via their App to do over air software updates for the motor. The latest software apparently corrects an issue where peak torque load spikes in certain conditions exceed the belt design strength. This update extends the belt life.

So tomorrows job is to see if I can do this without bricking it.

Well that's all rather boring, the App says that it won't do the update and to take it to a retailer. So that means either the new motor wasn't assigned to the bike when they fitted it or its too earlier a version of a Levo to accept OTA updates.

My s-i-ls e-bike (not a specialized but pricey snuff) decided it wasn't going to power half way round a relatively short bimble. By fook those things are heavy when all you have is leg power!
