House rental references - who can see
Some mates paid an agent to find some tenants for their property
They’ve been in the house for two years and in that time it’s trashed. So so much damage
As they paid a finders fee to the agent (who apparently did say originally that he knew the tenants) they’ve asked to see the references that were given (taken?) before the lease started
Anyone know if GDPR stops my mates seeing the references given that the tenancy agreement was between them and the fuckwits?

Not sure that GDPR can be used as a means to limit or stop legal restitution for property damage be it civil or criminal damage. How else would the aggrieved party take action?

Will seeing the references help now? Did the agency also arrange a deposit?

Re: House rental references - who can see
Because there’s a bit of a question over the references (considering the state of the house) and if the agent knew the tenants (which he apparently said he did) the question is mostly - did they actually get references/were the references good.
The fact that they won’t share them is raising questions but they are using GPDR to explain why - hence wondering if that was a valid reason for the circumstances

It probably is a valid reason but only like H&S is used when people don't know. The default position for GDPR should be keep it a secret.

Gotcha. Certainly in the UK you’re allowed to see tenant’s references when they’re obtained by an agent. Best of luck.Noggin wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 11:26 pmBecause there’s a bit of a question over the references (considering the state of the house) and if the agent knew the tenants (which he apparently said he did) the question is mostly - did they actually get references/were the references good.
