Radiation

Post by Skub »

We have several of the BT booster thingies dotted around the house to improve the signal. The banana spent 2 days sitting beside this dish and the end closest appears to have ripened much faster than than the rest.

Should I be worried my testicles may over ripen, rot and fall off if I am too close to the dish for too long?

edit...forgot the pic. fuckin radiation is rotting my brian.

It's probably roughly the same amout of radiation that you'd get working outside on a cloudy day.

WiFi is gods way of making sure all the indoor workers get their daily dose.

Edit: feck i hate phone keyboards.

I'd be asking why you're sitting in the fruit bowl before I was asking about the radiation.

I used to work on very high power radio transmitters on ships so always in close proximity to them, the standing joke was the guys doing that job had more children on avererage than any other group on board.

Somewhat serious answer:

The bt device will also be getting a tad warmer than a non-electrical object so that heat energy radiating out (ie, more radiation in a different radio-wave frequency) will also contribute to the banana ripening faster.
Ie its not "just" the wifi signal that the device is radiating.

WiFi does operate at the same radio frequencies as Microwave ovens. AFAIK part of the reason that band was chosen for WiFi is precisely because it overlaps with said ovens, so it was 'free'. I suspect there were also other much more compelling reasons for choosing it.

Not very much power though!

Well. That's another potential facebonk crusade borkened. :(

Sounds like infra-red radiation played a part in turning the banana infra-black.

If it radiated that much heat I'd worry about what it does to the leccy bill.
If you have 2 more bananas please place them in almost the same position, one on top of the other but with one sticking out a little further. See if lines appear on each one and if they line up with each other.

Any further experimentation has got to involve tin foil.

Maybe even putting some on the banana. You might have to take it off the cucumber first.

Are we ignoring the fact that bananas themselves are highly radioactive*?

*definitely true I read about it on the internet.

Twice as radioactive as your wife, but not as radioactive as a coal power station

Only “highly” when compared to food with less potassium in it. And potassium is a necessary mineral, for health.

If you want to eat the most radioactive common foodstuff, it’s probably Brazil nuts. They have to be ones from Brazil though, to have the impressive radium content.

There was always a story told in the nuclear industry about a worker at Selafield who kept setting off the alarms with his nuts.

Workers who have had the common radioiodine thyroid treatment or some of the other radiotherapies do emit quite a lot of gamma, for a while.

Eating Brazil nuts can confuse some sensitive measurements, but you’d have to be that awkward guy who guzzles loads of them just before the procedure.

Fruit in the house! That's a sackable offence!

TBH I'd be more worried about all the chemicals you've probably man handled whilst cleaning and fettling motorbikes.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."
