Now that the nights are drawing in , it’s going to get cold and stay wet.
I need some insulated wellies that are comfortable to walk about 12 km a day.

And I know nothing about them - but you lot spend your life walking dogs and standing in sheds.
So you must do!

I find wellies a bit shit. Hard to take on and off, sweaty, uncomfortable and they seem to spring a leak when you're not even wearing them. Yes, even the expensive ones

I would be looking at neoprene. I have some std wellies and they are bleeding freezing. I am tempted though just to buy good walking boots that are waterproof. The is not too much of a price difference

For winter I use leather hiking boots rather than fabric, they're easier to wash off the mud. Scarpa are my current go-to (it was Meindl but they seem to have gone down the tubes). Different makes seem to suit different feet though. I'd suggest having a mooch into Cotswold Outdoors in Chichester (unless you have a nearer one) and try a few. They're usually pretty good with fitting.

I agree though, unless you're in serious mud/water, boots beat wellies.

Leather rigger boots from Screwfix. I've had a pair for a few years, utterly waterproof for extended periods in filthy muddy conditions, fake fur lined and extremely comfortable and warm. Cleaned up they make good bike boots as well. About 40 quid if you get the proper waterproof kind.

My women are into horses, and everyone in that world wears leather 'yard boots'. In response to my constant moaning about the expense of it all, my other half bought me some of these for my birthday one year. Leather, breathable, waterproof, incredibly comfortable.

I still don't understand or agree with any of the horse stuff, but I have to reluctantly admit that they have good boots and I've not worn rubber wellies since.

They look a little "here comes the cavalry'. And somewhat similar to the Dubarry boots much loved of yachties.
The only problem being I need a 46!

Love neoprene wellies, they're incredibly comfortable, and I live in them year round for wading through mud with the hound.

I started off with Bogs, but they constantly split on the foot part, and I got sick of contacting them for (in warranty) replacements.

As a horsey family (currently have 16 of the expensive twats), we use wellies a lot.
The Mrs and kids all have le chameau wellies, they’re expensive but last a couple of years of being used pretty much everyday and all day in winter, they’re warm and comfortable.
I have a pair of Barber wellies, by far the best footwear I’ve ever owned, again they are warm and comfortable and have been going for a couple of years now.
The neoprene wellies, while warm and comfortable just don’t seem to last and split fairly quickly - Grubbs being the worse I’ve had.
In summary, don’t buy any wellies for less than Atleast £100, but stretch to le chameau or Barbers if you can.
As for the leather country boots, if you’re happy to spend time cleaning and oiling they will last ok, but good wellies beat them hands down

This thread got me wondering what the well-used boots are that I see a few horsey folk wandering about in at the local supermarket. The chaps tend to look South American.

I have Berghaus walking boots. They're 99% waterproof, but only because they're donkey's years old. Wellies are uncomfortable and impracticle.
