I hope everyone enjoys the use of the word apparel, I thought I'd add a trans Atlantic vibe to this thread, though I live about as far as you can get from the Atlantic in the UK.

Following on from my helmet and waterproof purchases (Mountain Whorehouse Pacca Macca) I now want some long sleeved tops, preferably cheap, to protect my arms from errant brambles, I've got a couple of old long sleeved t shirts that work fine but don't want to spend much money on new ones when they'll get pulled apart by thorns and things.

Next - I would like something to cover my lower legs, as they are also getting abuse from undergrowth, I need to be able to cycle in whatever is suggested.

That's it for now, but I'm sure I'll have more daft questions soon.

You can get knee/shin pads. I've tried them. I could not get on with them. You will look 53% more gnarly tho'. I guess if you're doing downhill/trial stuff, then fine, but I found it awkward pedalling with any kinda effort.

I've got a pair of Fox Racing Ranger trousers in not-so-flattering grey. They're tight fitting but stretchy. I look a twat but they're comfy and stop my legs getting covered in mud.

I also use an old pair of Superdry cargo pants which again are quite slim fitting so they don't get caught in the chain. They're not as good for cycling in because their not cut for exercise but still do the job. They're cotton so hold water and quite heavy compared to the Rangers.

They look sweet, I might just have to buy one even though I've never owned a Bultaco or done trials.

The Fox trousers look nice, but don't come in short and fat sizing, I'd need an XL for the waist and the smallest size for my inside leg

I’m short and fat - 38” waist (or 40” if Levi’s jeans are more accurate) with a 30” inseam. The 38” Fox trousers fit me okay. Not great but comfy.

I should point out that when I say the fit is only "okay", it's because I've got quite big thighs and calves - I say muscle from football and basketball, others might have a different opinion - and that's why the fit is only "okay".

I wear long bib leggings under my mtb shorts but that’s because i’m a softy and like the chamois pad!!

Any long/ short sleeve mx or mtb shirt will do, i just browse the cycle shops etc for stuff on sale. Some of the mtb gear are crazy prices. Don’t often find much though, cos i’m a fat git, so buy sale stuff when there’s sizes available.

I normally wear a t shirt and accept a bit of blood dripping down your arm makes you look cool , but I do have a long top similar to what weeksy posted and I will have a cool Bultaco one on the way shorty

If wet I have a cheap top like you've already been recommended. I then wear waterproof shorts with long waterproof socks and knee armour. Anything else is boil in the bag warm tbh.

once again, unless you need to look hip 'n' down with the kids, go into Mountain Whorehouse ....

Started wearing a helmet and people who smiled and said hello to me before now give me grumpy looks and practically accuse me of attempting to kill their dogs, the jogging milfs are most definitely not impressed by my helmet.
