(They probably put them on as a courtesy to make sure foreign customers are on the right trains ).

I stood on top of Ayres rock quite a few years ago, with a fella called Ben Burt, who I've never seen
since coming home. Memorable and no longer possible I believe.

About 15 years ago. Final evening of a holiday in Spain.

A friend had a holiday home which was the old farmhouse (but extended), surrounded by what had been olive groves.

We (Filly, Foal, me, two other friends) were on the roof terrace with G&Ts, in the sun, views to the sea about 4 miles away.

One of the friends was an opera singer. She sang the song that British Airways used in advertising.

America certainly has my interest and if my numbers came in and I fancied travelling, it'd be there i went to. Spain and the Spanish people have my heart though. I doubt that'll ever change as I'm only interested in America and Europe and no where outside of that holds any interest for me, or at least enough to make me want to visit. There maybe a long shot of India, but no where else.

I haven't visited as many countries as a lot of others have but I have probably spent longer in the ones I have visited. M, for example has been bloody everywhere but is rarely static for more than a couple of days. Her favourite place is Costa Rica.

For myself, I live in a place that is more like home than anywhere else I've been. I have good memories from most of the others that will stay with me; Oman was beautiful, the Nepalese are lovely people (and they have mountains), Bahrain was a terrible contrast between rich and poor. Eastern Transvaal and the Drakensberg in SA some of the most spectacular sights on the planet. Places generally though are made by the people there and some of those can skew the decisions.

But one favourite? Ballintoy in Northern Ireland*. I'll be going back there before I die, hopefully.

* I have memories from the Falls Road and the Bogside as well but see the comment above about people making places.

I had a rather odd experience in Rome a few years back.

Mrs.Skub wanted to go,I generally don't like crowds of people and cities are not my thing,but I went anyway to keep the peace! To put things in context,I'm a homebird and the best part of any holiday I've ever had,is coming home.

From the moment we arrived in Rome I felt strangely at home. I have no religious/reincarnation beliefs,but it was as if I had lived my life there and there was a feeling of utter contentment and peace. The whole time we were there the feelings persisted and as I looked over the city from the air as we were leaving,I was almost bereft and tearful,as if I was actually leaving home never to return. Even writing this,the emotion is still there.
