Trying to get my pond sorted. The cold put a crimp on the green algae/weed stuff but there are clouds of it choking the new plants now. It would be easy to haul the plants out and remove the weed but there's quite a lot of spawn in there too. Don't want to destroy that in the process.
Hmm. Might have to 'go chemical' (there's 'wildlife friendly' stuff). Once the plants get established that should help but they're struggling.

Going to see the fam-a-lam in Portsmouth. Pizza in my parent's garden Sat (they'll be there too!) and dinner out by the beach on Sun.
Should be lovely weather for it

Fri, MTB, I’ll be on the Amish bike with the doggos who will be wondering if I’m about to keep over due to my lack of fitness. Then either wash motorbike or mow lawn.
Sat, mow lawn or wash motorbike, which ever I didn’t do. Walk dogs and Thai takeaway in the evening
Sun, walk dogs and roast dinner.
Mon, lazy day and then 12hr night.

I'll be curious as to how that goes for you. I've been mixing mine up with Eeb, manual and Zwifting and i think my form is still pretty decent based upon what i'm seeing... Off to coffee with a mate in a mo - taking the car as the weather isn't lovely but mostly as I'm hoping to track down the mattress delivery after coffee!! LOL Will try and get to the butcher as well and get the pork for sausages
Rest of the day will be chilling and hoping the cat will talk to me!!
Tomorrow head up to resort to drop off the mattress and put the old one in the garage I use. Then maybe try and make sausages!!
Sunday - head to GVA to pick up my friends, drop them home and take bike back up to resort and sleep on a comfy bed for the first time in AGES
Not sure that Monday is a BH here, we had may day on Weds, but I think there is another BH so maybe
Then, the long chill of interseason

I use chemicals in mine at the start of the March then stick in a couple of mini hay bales and that seems to stop/slow down the pond fogging. Come June/July I’ll mcGuyver a pipe from the house guttering down pipe to the pond when a thunderstorm/deluge is imminent and let that flush the pond through which works a treat and prevents the cloudiness/algae coming back. Also get oxygenating plants, lots of them.Count Steer wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 7:10 am Trying to get my pond sorted. I’m shockingly bad at the moment, the relentless rain pretty much kyboshed my winter riding save for my cycle path commutes and then the lots of shifts/lurgy struck so looking at my Strava fitness profile it resembles a series of mountain peaks and valleys and currently I’m clawing my way out of the Grand Canyonweeksy wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 8:05 amI'll be curious as to how that goes for you. Re: Friday thread... May BH Weekender
Watching the F1 today, tomorrow, Sunday, most likely.
Other than that - we're taking the Tuesday off work as well to make a long weekend but no idea what we'll do.
Will probably try to get out on the bike at some point.

Out for dinner at one of our favourite Pubs, sorry bar & kitchen tonight.
Missing bits are here for the new shed, so hopefully get that up, but the weather might stop that?
Hoping to get Father-in-law over for BBQ pizzas and sardines on Sunday, even if its me cooking them in the rain.
Hopefully a few gym visits in between that lot too.

Cheers, I'll try the mini hay bales. I've seen them at the pond shop. Which chemical do you use?MingtheMerciless wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 8:49 amI use chemicals in mine at the start of the March then stick in a couple of mini hay bales and that seems to stop/slow down the pond fogging. I've been putting a few hundred litres of rain water in each summer but I thought that it was better to avoid refreshing the water and that it was the depletion of nutrients that restricted the stuff. (Have to do it anyway to keep the level up).
It's the oxygenators that seem to suffer most from the bloomin' weed. I'm bringing some on in big tubs so that it's pretty well established when it goes in. (It's even smothering the new elodea densa - which itself can be a problem if it gets out of hand!).
At the moment I'm mainly trying to keep the pump clear but you can almost watch the green stuff grow in the rocky cascade down into the pond. If it was edible I could feed the planet!
Going to order some snails once I've got things a bit more controlled too.

Just pegged all the washing out. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it
This weekend, up here in bronteland, it’s the steam punk weekend so we will go and have look see. Some of the clothing they wear cost a absolute fortune. I’ll post some pics up later.
After that I’ll be flying by the seat of my pants
Woof

Re: Friday thread... May BH Weekender
Double birthday weekend as always for the May BH. Me today, Mrs Monday. Plan had been
Fri - drop kids walk down to the garden centre in the nice spring weather and have a coffee before starting work
Sat - Go out on the bike in the morning then walk into town for a Thai lunch
Sun - Bike ride AM and then something during the afternoon before beer and PS whilst the Mrs goes out with some mates.
Mon - Village May day thing on the green.
However, the weather looks iffy to shit for most of the weekend so we'll see.
Praying that the karma gods will give us nice weather next weekend when the Mrs and I go away for a couple of nights. Please

Mostly DIY of varying types.
Also need to pick up a new tyre for the Audi, courtesy of a big fuck-off screw. This is the fourth puncture of the year so far, across two cars (not including the quad having a full set of new tyres too)

Now the wife and I work in the smoke, occasionally we arrange to meet up for drinks. Doing that tonight.
Tomorrow: gardening I hope. I’m hanging some pallets I’ve painted and will be adding flowers etc. also hoping to get out on the Harley (do this as often as I can)
Sunday: horse stuff, picnic stuff with the family. Probably visit the MIL
Monday: west wittering with the dogs. Gardening.
