Advice from the police about driving in the islands

It seems a bit odd to me, anyone else care to comment on the bit about flashing one's lights to shift slower road users out of the way? I don't do this FWIW. The doctors have the option of using green flashing lights, unless that's changed.

I always thought it was standard practice in the Highlands and Islands to let faster traffic past by pulling into passing places?

It is if you know to do it IYSWIM. There's frequently someone who's decided they want to lead the parade, and more frustrating is when they politely give way for every vehicle that comes towards them. The passing places aren't that long so you have to stop anyway to let the whole stonk of vehicles pass until you can pull away.

'Transmit - receive' what the flasher (oo-er) means isn't necessarily what is understood.
When I'm on a CFR call it's just a case of going with the [traffic] flow.
I did get tooted at once though. I'd stopped half way across a junction.
To let an ambulance through
Which was going to the same call as me

Could just boil it down to "Don't be a twat", but that message never seems to get through either.
