Van thread

Post by porter_jamie »

Sorry, another one. I have a V6 Viano and it is awesome. But it's thirsty and the car tax is rude. And I don't really need it.
So, what small van can you still squeeze a motorbike in?
Connect size thing is this plausible?

I can't help much but you mention car tax, vans are taxed differently depending if they are considered commercial vehicles or not, so swapping tax bracket might save you a lot. IIRC commercial is a fixed rate so not emissions based. It's about 6 years since I had a van so this might have changed.

Connect only with front seat out.

Viano would be less if a van van, i assume you're paying nearly £600 ?

Nearly 700 ffs
I need something a little smaller to fit on my new house drive. Original connect would do, as I'd only use it for driving to work and hauling MTB and possibly a motorbike around. The problem with larger (Vito etc) vans is the money you need for a nice one it's just insane
What about the french mid sized van, I don't recall the names

Depends on the bike. I think many fit in diagonally, but height may be an issue.

Citroen Dispatch
Fiat Scudo
Peugeot Expert

Basically all the same bar the badge and trim. You will get a small bike it but they do come in LWB and High top. They say Hi but its more like a mid top.

Can you throw it in the average car boot? Say a focus sized hatch?

Yes. I don't like them much, but that's just me... i don't think they're anywhere near as good as a van for many many reasons.. but they work OK and break down really small.

I agree a van is better, but, as an only vehicle they are worse all the rest of the time.

Depends on the van. Get yourself a Transit MSRT or a VW with the 204hp motor and DSG box.

Once we've moved house I'm going back to a trailer and getting rid of the van. Just not used it as much as I thought and while it's ok on a run I do get a bit bored driving it.

viano has 240 horse, its not the lack of power.

What is it? Obviously I'm very biased here as I love mine

Dispatch/Expert/Scudo is about the smallest you can get a full size bike into, and that's diagonally.

as a bus its awesome its just a big old lump, its expensive to run and i really dont need it 99% of the time. id like a nice comfy car instead. dont really have room for 2 motors. i currently have a tdi ibiza for running to work and the viano, and id like to get rid of one or both. the beefa is knackered so ill probably let it run out of mot and scrap it, and get a scooter for commuting and keep the bus, or fuck the bus off and just get a nice car and hire a van on the very odd occasion i need a van.
i know as soon as i get rid of the bus, i will regret it as ive had a van basically since the late 90s and it would be really weird not having one. there is an idea to fit a pop top and a camper interior and use it like that but that many $$ and its still expensive just to have on the drive

LWB connect, caddy maxi or Berlingo can get a sportsbike in. Any taller bikes you’ll need a trafic, custom or Vito. All vans are £320 road tax but there’s not many people carriers you’ll get a motorbike in so you’re gonna have to pay it 👍

You know the answer is an e class estate, get a 2017 and it’s £35 road tax too 😃
