Bikes you lusted after but never actually bought

Long list in my case.

From the mists of time.
Triumph Bonneville T120 - the original version
BSA Road Rocket
AJS Mod 31 CSR
Velocette Thruxton Venom (or a Venom Clubman would do).

At the time I couldn't afford them. I wouldn't dare buy one now, I would probably be very disappointed, particularly with the reliablity.

From the past.
Honda Pacific Coast
Honda Deauville
Honda Goldwing - the later fully faired version with built-in luggage.

As you can see, I have a bit of a thing about bikes with designed-in luggage space. I nearly bought a Deauville once!

I wanted a 250 Hornet so badly it hurt when I was 17, but the dealer wouldn't shift on price, so I bought his 400 Bros instead (the 350 Goose was also an option, but I thought the Bros would be more faster).

I spent ages thinking of trading my R6 in for a Firestorm... and bought a Blade instead.

I very very nearly bought an 848... and for some strange reason bought a 700 Transalp instead.

After seeing the local nutter pulling standing start quarter miles down a residential street near me on a Skub-mobile (Mach III Kawasaki triple) in 1969, I wanted one so bad it hurt, but I just didn't have the dosh. My 2T longing was finally assuaged 11 years later when I bought my 350LC, but the yearning for a lairy H1 triple hasn't entirely gone away...

None. I bought them.

You could argue a 1290 SuperDuke , but I test rode one to buy it and didn't get on with it.

The rest, I owned.

GSX550EFE, even now I still think they're a nice looking bike, but I really don't want one, my only excuse is that I was 16 when I wanted one.

There's a load of other old crap that I listed after when I was young, but actually buying one of them has smashed those rose tinted glasses.

I had a pink YZF, it was a fantastic bike and only went because I bought an early R1

Twas the same for me. I blattered on about owning a triple all my days. When I finally bit the bullet it was with a view to punting it on if I didn't like it. Not only am I enjoying it,I think I'm bloody obsessed.
The only downside is I keep seeing more triples for sale...

It was the sound as much as anything that did it for me. It really was the closest I'd ever heard to Ago's MV-3.

Teenage dreams, so hard to beat...

Katana, first edition: so badly wanted one.

But, there's many other things that I so badly wanted. That's the problem being young and skint.

Now I'm an old bugger I can pretty much get what I want but don't....makes no sense.

A DT175MX as progression from my Moped. For some reason I ended up with a Norton!

I had a GSX750 when first in NZ. Lusted after a big trailie (Transalp mainly) as they had thousands of KMs of "metal roads" but the GSX was a good mile muncher.

I lusted after mostly mid range sports bikes

ZXR600
ZXR400
CBR600RR (the under seat exhausts 😍)
998
748

These days I'd likely hate the riding position on all of 'em, though I wouldn't say no to giving a 748 a go...

A purple H2C. There was one in Foxes window for what seemed like ages when we used to hang about and annoy bike shops in the early 80s and somehow I convinced myself I had a H1 already so I didn't need it. I still wet myself every time I see one 40 years later

I was severely tempted by the first MV Agusta F4 750 and was close to pulling the pin on it, but one of the contractors I was working with bought one of the first batch and spoke about ridiculously hard suspension, very poor fuelling and questionable reliability. It looked a million dollars, but after hearing those comments my enthusiasm waned.

It's still a sensational looking motorbike, though.

The cbr600rr is surprisingly comfortable, even for old backs.

My daily commute was 50 mile each way on a mixture of B roads and fast A roads. Unlike the Daytona 675, I had no problems at all with my back. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Another I should have kept?

Orange Thundercat. Always wanted one of those!!

Image

I got to look after the yellow and silver version for a few weeks before I got my own bike. But for some reason I always wanted the orange and silver one🤣🤣

TBF, there’s not much else I lusted after much - I got into bikes late and I managed to get the one that I truly did lust after from the first time I saw it - TL1000s. Still gutted I broke that one ☹️☹️☹️

When I was 16 I wanted to get my test passed & buy a turquoise RD400,I passed my test soon enough but 350 LC's were on the scene by the time I could afford an RD400.
In the 90's I liked the red YZF750 but paying the mortgage was more of a priority.Same with a white & red 4XV R1
In 2014 I almost bought a TRX850 but was skint after buying this place.
Happy to say I got a really nice low miles Street Triple when I was looking

Me too, except I ended up with a Suzuki ts100 as the new learner limit came in before I could get a DT175, then progressed to an xt250 afterwards instead.
