What the longest you've ever worked for someone?

I'm going out for a few beers tonight with a colleague who's been at this place for 37 years and is now, sensibly, retiring. Puts my 27 years to shame.
It used to be a standing joke that I would never stay in the same place for more then a couple years, always chasing new opportunities and bigger pay, but I kinda liked the vibe and culture of where I am now, so stuck around.
How long you been grafting for your employer? What's made you stay or jack it in after 20 minutes?

8 years, back in the day.
I tend to contract now, so anything from 1 to 18 months max.

I think about seven years for one employer. A blue chip corporate multinational delivering low carbon solutions.
I have worked with people who've only ever worked for one employer all their life and they're sometimes scared to leave.
Back when I was in the media, doing a fast track editor course, they said you only stay for three years. In year one you make the changes, in year two you reap the benefits, in year three you move on.
I think it's good to change jobs and change industry even. Go into someone's house without fear and tweak the nose of the spindly killer fish.

I started work at 16 and stayed for 21 years. Took a break while the kids were young, then part time for 18 years. That was me done with work.
I've never been a restless soul,I try to make whatever I have work best for me.

I'll have been at my current place 20 years next Oct. My job role is completely different to what I started doing here though. I did seriously look into leaving in 2008 but then crash happened and I decided staying put was a better idea short term. Then I had kids and it's a decent place to work when you have kids. Fairly low stress, 30 days hol plus an extra 4 days at Christmas, decent pension contributions, work from home 4 days a week, my own boss pretty much, very good redundancy if that happened (well as long as it's not cos the company is folding) and lots of established relationships. So yeah, probably a bit dull and not very go getting but I earn ok and left alone pretty much.

Similar (just under 10 years).
I left when I finally ran out of patience with the c*nt I'd been working with for 10 years.
Funnily enough my gf is celebrating 30 years with her job today.

Jeez. 27 years is starting to look like I've still got milk behind my ears.

20 years, and I'm a bit sick of it, but it pays very well and it's a 20 minute commute.

Joined British Rail in October 1992. The organisation name might have changed a few times and I've had five different roles but I'll be here until I retire.

20 years and one month. I did the extra month to get my 20 year awards (and an extra day's holiday!) before retiring. Don't miss it a teeny tiny little bit.

OK. Next question:
What did you get, if anything, when you hit the milestones?
For 25 years I got taken out, with some other colleagues who had hit the magical 25 years, for a very nice meal and was presented with a watch. It wasn't a Patek or AP, but a nice one nonetheless, and it does have a bit of sentimental value if I'm honest.
