I've been sorting out replacing some bits of garden lighting, one of them the submerged 12v lamp that illuminates the water feature. Having replaced the actual sealed unit with no luck, I took a look at the transformer which sits under the decked seating area.
I suspect that when the work was done way back when, the 2 pin connector was chopped off as it wouldn't go through the drilled hole from the water feature, which was then sealed up. I found the 12v wires simply pushed into the transformer with half a tube of sealant keeping the whole assembly connected and, it appears hopefully, waterproof.
Net result is that many years later the transformer has, I believe, failed due to water ingress due to this somewhat shoddy workaround.
Question: is it possible to buy a standalone IP67/8 240 - 12v ac transformer, and connect the the existing cables with waterproof connectors? I've Googled, but can't find anything.

Not sure if it is allowed, but I have used waterproof glands to splice a cable for a water feature pump. It wasn't actually underwater but burried in some fairly damp ground. It survived for a fair number of years and was still going strong when I sold the house. I did use sealant as well, and made sure it was well protected.

Bollocks, yes.

I was being an idiot and didn't think.of the obvious answer which is to order up something like that and then splice the 12v output to the existing (immovable) 12v cable with a gel-filled terminal.
That'll do the job.
